THE FACTS

Students success rate on state tests are below state standards, especially in core subjects which are reading and math. Unfortunately, if they don’t have strong reading skills, they can’t achieve the standards in other subject areas because of the fact that all subjects require strong reading skills and linked to reading. . All these data show that the students need intensive and comprehensive reading and math tutoring programs.

Mentors Make a Difference

There are not enough English Language Art and Math teachers for effective tutoring. Since there are not enough teachers, the school needs volunteer parents to help tutoring, to offer reading and math club activities. Other community members are also welcome to help in this matter.

STRATEGIES

• Parent Workshops : Effective motivation and software students use on daily basis.

• School Newsletter and Wednesday Mail: Bimonthly newsletters and biweekly Wednesday mails will be emailed to all parents and published on the school website.

• Reading & Math Clubs: Volunteer parents will offer clubs to strengthen our students’ reading and math skills.

STRATEGIES AND FUND

• Library Time: Volunteer parents will also help librarian to organize and help students at their library period.

• Fund-raising: PTO will arrange fund-raising activities to purchase necessary materials. Local businesses will be visited.

GOAL

The ultimate goal is increasing student achievement through parent communication and support. Training for parents would be made available to allow for better methods for working with students.
