Overall construction of my magazine.

This is the initial background of my front cover. I used a plain black background and added a ‘bubble’ effect which you can see when zoomed in. I then used the brush tool to add glow effect to the middle of the page so that the central image stands out.

• I then added my masthead which I decided to make simplistic with the large capital ‘N’ centre piece with ‘Note Magazine’ on top of it with a much smaller font. This makes the magazine different to most other magazines and makes it stand out to the reader.• I added a gradient effect

so that it did not stand out too much and would blend in with the rest of the magazine.

• After this I decided to add the red glow in the centre of the page as red is one of my chosen colour schemes.

• I then placed my chosen image which I had previously edited using Adobe Photoshop CS3. I made sure it was a large image and the main focus of the front cover as the band are the main feature of the magazine. Placing it in the centre also gives it more attention as the glow is behind it.

• To emphasis this I used the brush tool to add a yellow glow behind the image to again make it stand out but also to complement the yellow coat and stay in line with the colour scheme.

• Then I used the brush tool to add a ‘light’ affect behind my headline ‘Twofold’. This makes it stand out more makes the text look more professional and interesting.

• After this I added a black glow behind it to add even more to the effect and make it stand out.

• After adding the lights and glow I placed the Twofold text which is in a Niagara Engraved font - as you can see this allows the light and glow through the text and make it more eye-catching.

• Following this I created a top strapline so that I could include important text for the reader.• I added a gradient effect so

that the strapline was not boring and could stand out more.

• Using the same Niagara Engraved font I added a list of bands that will feature in my magazine. The genre of the band fit the genre of my indie magazine and the different sizing of the font make them standout so they don’t just blend in together.

• To make the headline more effective I added the word introducing on top of ‘Twofold’ in a small font so that it did not take over the bands name.

• Similar to the top strap I added a bottom strapline with a gradient effect in the opposite direction.

• At this stage I felt that the image was too dull and did not stand out enough, so to enhance this I use the brightness and contrast editor to edit the image.

• I then used the brush tool to add another glow to emphasis the image.

• Here you can see my initial final front cover. However, I decided to make changes to ensure that it coincided with the codes and conventions of a typical magazine.

As you can see I decided to change the large ‘N’ in the background as I felt I took away the attention of the main feature and did not match the codes and conventions of a normal magazine. I have not made it much smaller so that the masthead looks more effective. I have also added a red glow to the background as that was on of my chosen colours for my colour scheme and therefore makes it look more professional.
