OUR JOURNEY THROUGH THE RIVER DART.By Holly ,Ivor and Nathan.

RECEIVED A LETTER.

We received a letter from the council saying “ can you help us figure out the majority vote on who would like a bridge and who wouldn’t. If you can, please make a questionnaire about other options about the bridge.’’

GENERATE A QUESTIONNAIRE.

We started generating a questionnaire with different types of questions about the bridge. We asked what the bridge would like to look like, whether it should be a pedestrian bridge or not and other questions…

SURVEYED KINGSWEAR AND DARTMOUTH PUBLIC.

We started to travel around Kingswear and Dartmouth asking the public questions on their opinion about having a bridge over the Dart , using our questions from the questionnaire we had created from earlier.

RIVER TRIP.

We went up to the higher ferry and looked at Dartmouth to see where a bridge would fit in with the surrounding area. Also we thought about what type of metal would be beneficial for the bridge. We agreed that having silver metal would be best.

RESEARCHING TYPES OF BRIDGES.

We researched about different types of bridges on the internet. We looked at: bascule bridges , arch, tunnel and tower. We decided on a bascule bridge because if a huge sailing boat passed by a bascule bridge can lift up to let it pass.

SORTING DATA.

We sorted the data into tally charts to see the information clearly. We noted down the option with the highest majority vote. We had 3 different sections on the tally chart. We had one section that said the option, another that had the tally and the last had the amount of the tallies in numbers.

CREATED CHARTS/SUCCESS CRITERIA.

Once we had all of our data, we created different charts for the different questions on the questionnaire. We did pie charts, bar charts and pictograms. We then created our own small success criteria then we created one as a whole group.

SURVEYED RIVER/LOCATIONS.

We looked on google maps to see the best place where a bridge should be built. We decided that we should build a bridge near the higher ferry.

SKETCHED LANDSCAPE/BRIDGE.

We sketched the landscape and the river with a view of

Dartmouth in the background. Then we got a blank A3 piece of paper and sketched our bridges. Then we stuck our bridges onto card and then stuck it on our landscape.

PLAN MODELS.

We planned our models on an A3 piece of paper. We had to note down ideas for the model of our bridge and then do a diagram of what the model bridge might look like.

MAKING MODELS.

We made models of our bridges in groups of 3. We combined ideas to make a better plan for our models. We used ideas from our plans to help us make our models.
