Oracle 12c RDBMS Quick Install Process

1. Install Oracle Linux 5.6

2. Update swappiness if you are using VM

3. Install required packages.

4. Download database software

5. Run Installer and follow screens.

Update swappiness if you are using VM (Go back to top)

You can change setting for current server (not persistent)

#sysctl vm.swappiness=100

To make a change permanent, edit the configuration file

#vi /etc/sysctl.conf

Search for vm.swappiness and change its value as desired. If it d does not exist, you can add it

vm.swappiness=100

Install required packages. (Go back to top)

Download the yum repository file for your Linux distribution from

http://public-yum.oracle.com, using the instructions you can find on the public yum site.

# cd /etc/yum.repos.d/

# wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo

Oracle Linux 6:

# yum install oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall

Oracle Linux 5:

# yum install oracle-validated

Oracle RDBMS software is packaged in two zip files. Make sure that you extract both the archive files to

the same directory.

unzip file_name.zip

Run Installer (Go back to top)

Login as “oracle” os user

Cd to directory where you unzip software

./runInstaller

Screen 1: if you are planning to configure configuration manager provide your email address. If you do

not then press next button.it will ask you to validate your step press ok

Screen2: if you want to download software.Browse the patch if you already downloaded soft ware.In

our case I use skip software update option.

Screen3:Here you have to select option 1 if you want to install software and create database both,

Option2 if you want to install software only.Option3 is for upgrade.

Screen4:Option1 for single node(non rac) database installation.Option2 for RAC install and option3 for

one node RAC (easy on licensing and free restart ☺☺☺☺)

Screen5:Default LanguageEnglish already selected

Screen6: Choose between Enterprise, Standard and Standard one. Standard one is new in 12c.

Screen7: Choose Oracle base

(Go back to top)

Screen8: Inventory location will be prepopulated and default group oinstall too. You can change it if

you need to but this is best practice.

Screen6: Select All groups here you need to have in database. Remember there are 4 new groups added

in 12c OSBACKUPDBA/OSDGDBA/OSKMDBA.

Screen10: Fix all the errors you see here and then move to next step.

Screen11: Save response file if you want and click install.
