• automatically formats your references according to a predefined citation style

7

Workflow

8

Citations & BibliographyTwo places to cite the references you have used:

• within a sentence (in-text citation)

• at the end of the document (bibliography/references)

9

The EndNote LibraryContains all your references. No limit to number of

references, but <100,000 is recommended

10

Step 1: Create an EndNote Librarya. All programs > EndNote > EndNote Programb. File > Newc. Filename: Project (*.enl)d. Save

11

Step 2: Add References to the Library

12

MS Word/Open Office

Method 1: Direct ExportExport references directly from a database.

Steps:

1. At the database, select the records you want

2. Save, output, export or send to EndNote (The EndNote option may also be labeled as “RIS.”)

Method 1: Direct Export1. Mark the records

2. Click on EndNote

Method 2: Import .Txt FileUsed when references cannot be exported to EndNote.

(File format is usually .txt, but for PubMed, it’s .nbib )3. In EndNote, go to File > Import4. Browse and select the .txt file5. Select Import option > Other filters e.g. PubMed (NLM)

MS Word

• Most major databases

• Google Scholar• FindMore@NUSL

• Only for PDFs with DOI no. and is OCRable

• Library catalogues e.g. NUS, LOC

• Use as last resort
