DESCRIPTION

This is a simple workshop presentation to give K12 teachers a hands on experience of using an online classroom - with a simple teaching strategy to help them design the learning sequence and understand their role and that of their students in a meta-cognitive approach to extending their classroom interaction - by building and maintaining an online community - using VERY simple tools

TRANSCRIPT

Online ClassroomsA teaching strategy for the middle years

Characteristics

• Is not a replacement for the classroom!

• Is a space for teachers and students to collaborate though two way conversation to do things that are too hard to achieve otherwise.

• Developed to give additional formative assessment and student questions

• Is more informal than formal

Teaching strategy

• To be a facilitator, not a judge

• To be a critical, supportive friend

• To allow students to take ‘side trips’ into avenues that they are interested in and not to stick too rigidly to the curriculum

• To let students know where they are in their own learning
