Changing Standards

★ Not much different than what we used before.

★ Opportunity for deeper levels of understanding.

★ Mastery of the “basics.”

★ Thinking, listening and speaking skills.

Changing Classrooms

★ More variety of reading and writing.

★ Thinking, listening, speaking skills.

★ Real world tasks and applications.

★ Cooperative learning and differentiated instruction.

Changing Assessments (tests)

★ Requires students to show what they know.

★ Engaging students in assessment.

★ Immediate feedback to inform instruction.

How have we been preparing?

★ Revised curriculum maps and lessons to make the new standards our own.

★ Increasing rigor of classroom instruction and assessment.

★ Focus on all students mastering grade level topics.

Transition will likely mean lower test scores (at first)

What can I do as a parent?
