28 February 1997) allowed and provided greater visibility to Islam both as a style of life and as political formation. Political Islam during this period became a social movement which based its discourse and praxis on tebliğ – notification.

With the so-called “postmodern” military intervention

of “28 February,” by which political Islamists received a “warning” from the military intervention, political Islam changed its attitude and started emphasizing temsil – representation, instead of notification. In sum, “28 February” has been a major turning point for Islamic discourse and lifestyles.
