october 2015 meeting summary

HiEveryone–Fifteenmembersattendedlastnight’smeeting,includingtwonewmembersandavisitor.WewelcomedbackMallyfromlastmonth;sheisoneofournewmembersandwearehappytohaveherwithus.Wealsowelcomedtwovisitors,AndreaandJanet.Andreafounduswhenshegoogled“needlepointinBedminster”.Andreahasbeencross-stitchingforyearsandrecentlydiscoveredtheEdwardianNeedleandtheworldofneedlepoint!ShedecidedtojoinANGandNJNAandwearethrilledtohaveheraboard.Ifyouweren’tatthemeeting,youwillseeabeautifulexampleofherworkintheshowandtellsection.JanetusedtobeamemberofNJNA–about25yearsago!SheisgoodfriendswithPamGandwasrecentlyintroducedtoHeidiwhoencouragedhertocomebackandseewhatwewereupto!Canyouimaginethatshehasneedlepointed37Christmasstockings?(And,no,sheisn’tthepersonwhopostedherlistonFacebook!)Janetsaysshedoeshavealist,however,andisintheprocessofcollectingpicturesofall37stockings!Shemustbeafaststitchertoosinceshetoldusshecompleteda4-footby6-footpiecethatshebought30yearsagoandstartedthispastJanuary.Itmakesmethinkthatthereisstillhopeformyunstartedstash!WehopethatJanetwilldecidetojoinourgroupandshowoffherhandiwork!LestIforget,NJNAalsowelcomesEllenSainesasanewmember!Ellen,amemberoftheMonmouthChapterofEGA,attendedtheANGseminarinMyrtleBeachandgottomeetafewofourmembers.WearehappytohaveherbecomepartofNJNAandhopethatshewillbeabletoattendsomeofourmeetings!Lastmonth,wetoldyouthatwewerelookingforanominatingcommitteetocanvasandproposeaslateofofficersfornextyear.Linda,Tina,andSueChaveagreedtoundertakethistask.Pleaseletthemknowifyouareinterestedinbecominganofficeroranadhocmemberofourboard.DianereportedonsomeoutcomesoftheOctoberboardmeeting.MostexcitingistheboardappointmentofTinatobetheNJNAWorkshopCoordinator.TinahasalotofexcitingpossibilitiesforworkshopstobecoordinatedbyNJNAinthecomingmonths.DianesuggestedthatwetrytocoordinateaworkshoparoundbeingpilotstitchersforSusanHoeksta’sPennsylvaniaDutchSampler.Asign-upsheetwassentaround.Theboardalsodecidedthatweshouldhavenametagsforourmeetings.The“official”NJNAtagisavailableonthewebsite,butthesizeappearstobeoff.Dianeistryingto

findtheoriginaldesigntoreplacewhatiscurrentlyonthewebsite.Theboardalsothoughtthatitmightbetimeforustodesignanewnametag–thatsoundslikefuntome!Spoileralert:Yournametagdoesnothavetobestitched(fornow)andyoucanbringanotherformofnametag.BUT!–Carolwillhave“Hello,Mynameis_____”stickersifyoudon’tbringonetoourmeetings.Dianeannouncedthattheboardhaddecidedtotryanewprojectformatfornextyear.Ronaisspearheadingthiseffort.NJNAwillannouncesixsmallprojectsinDecember2015.YoucansignupforanyorallofthemattheDecembermeeting.TheannouncementwillincludewhatNJNAwillprovideandwhatyouhavetoprovideforyourself.Anincentivewillbegiventoanyonewhofinishesatleastthree.Theprojectswillbedoledoutatmeetingsthroughouttheyear!Theboardalsodecidedtotryachangeinformatforshowandtellnextyear.Whenyoubringinanitemforshowandtell,youwillfilloutacardwithcertaindetailsaboutthepiece.Thecardswillbecollectedandwewillhaveadrawingorcategoriesforincentivestobegivenout!SueCreportedthatMaryD-ShadhersurgeryonMondayandisdoingwell.ShehasbeenmovedtoKesslerinChesterforrecoveryandSueplanstostitchwithMaryonFriday.WewishMaryaspeedyrecoverybecausewemissheratourmeetingsandSOTMandSerengeti!Rosiereportedourbankbalanceof$1,983.93!Carolsummarizedtheremainingprogramsfor2015.

TheNJNAHolidayPartyisafunnightwheremembersbringeitheranappetizeroradesserttoshare.Ifinterested,wehavea“DirtySanta”gamewhereparticipantsbringaneedlepoint-relatedgift(limit$20)toexchangeinanorganized,yetrowdy,sessionthatincludesthievery!Iseethatsomefolksarestillholdinggrudgesfromyearspast!!!TheSOTMgroupcontinueswithRubyRazzleDazzlefortheremainderofthisyear.Thoseofuswhowenttoseminargotasneakpeakatnextyear’sANGSOTMprojectanditseemslikeitmightbeagoodoneforourgroup.Staytunedformoredetails.ThenextNewJerseyNeedlefesthasjustbeenannouncedonFacebook.NJNAwillcoordinateatleastonetableforit.Thisisaday-longevenheldinPluckemin,NJandwealwaysenjoyseeingwhatalltheotherstitchersareworkingon!Dianetaughttheangelwingsstitchforourstitchnotebooks!ThisstitchwasinventedbyRoPaceandsheusesitintheborderofour“FlowersofItaly”project.It’san

tamariballs.Thisoneisthefourthandfinaloneinthecourse.Thisisafamousdesigncalled“KikuHerringbone”anditisfrequentlyboughtasasouvenirinJapan.Robindoesnotplantotakethenextlevelclass.Evenso,shehasalovelycollectionforherefforts

onthisclass.

Here’sRobin’ssecondfinish“ColorPlay”byJenniferRiefenberg.Eachofthe

hexagonswaspaintedthesame,butdifferentover-dyedthreadswereplacedontoptocreateakaleidoscopeofcolors!Robinsaidthatpawingthroughthebuttonboxto

choosetheembellishmentswasafun,differentpartofthecourse.
