DESCRIPTION

This is our Boss's Day 2014 presentation, minus the music.

TRANSCRIPT

For Boss’s Day 2014, we wanted to do something more for a

couple of important people that go above and beyond for us.

We thought about why we like working in Lewis Library…

I like working at UNTHSC because I feel I am contributing to education and

helping to improve health outcomes.

I really look forward to coming to work. I have never worked anywhere that I was as sad as I am here when it

is Friday.

I value the support and encouragement that everyone gives so

generously at the library.

The respectful and positive atmosphere is something I look

forward to each day.

People are considered in every decision.

I like working in Lewis Library because we have the opportunity to be creative

and collaborative.

My favorite thing about Lewis Library is all of the people I get to

work with and learn from.

My life would not be the same without each person here.

But why stop with talking about the library?

Since Boss’s Day is really about honoring leaders, we put together a few thoughts about some of the things we enjoy about working with Dan Burgard.

Can you ever hear anything about corn again and NOT think of Dan?

Me either.

Dan is very handy.

Despite his extreme dislike of librarian sweaters…

And even though there are a few days he may wish he had stayed in

the Army…

Sgt. Burgard definitely knows how to command a room.

Dan loves books.

This photo proves it.

More about Dan

• Dan is by far the funniest, most supportive library director I have ever worked for.

• He treats everyone – library staff, facilities staff, students – with the highest level of respect.

• He truly walks the walk and sets a great example for his employees of how to treat others.

• I have never seen a library director who is so accessible and in touch with the needs of the students.

• Dan really puts a lot into making sure the library is seen as a center for the campus.

• It shows daily what a difference he makes in the comments I hear from faculty, staff, and students.

• I like working for Dan because he makes us feel valued without saying a word.

• I always look forward to seeing what Dan will think of next!• Dan’s positivity and the way he always sees the best in others is truly

admirable.

And no matter what happens, Dan keeps us safe.

It is true. He has a vest and everything.

Dan is happy. That makes us happy.

Are you feeling all warm and fuzzy yet?

Yes. There is more.

And how about that Lisa?

Lisa is always prepared for any situation.

We feel better knowing she is watching out for us.

She is a true health educator from sharing the dangers of E-coli at the petting zoo to her participation as a Librarian Heart Throb.

Lisa also knows how to make wherever she is a fun place to be.

She supports our new ideas, services, and programs.

And Lisa is always up for an adventure.

More about Lisa• Lisa is someone I always look to for advice on project

planning. If you need a GANTT chart, she is the go to person.

• Lisa is the most supportive (and hilarious) supervisor I have ever had. I appreciate the faith and confidence she has in me, and this inspires me to try to be better every day! She truly listens to my ideas and makes me feel like I have a voice.

• Lisa Smith is a vivid story teller and has such an infectious laugh.

• I like working for Lisa because she is not only a committed and great boss, but also a supportive mentor.

• I enjoying working for and with Lisa because she includes her employees in planning and tells us her thought process when working on something new.

Oh wait, here is one more!

And that is not all we have to say about Lewis Library’s administration:

• I like Dan and Lisa’s collaborative style of management – meaning that they are always willing to get the librarians’ ideas and extensive input on the development of new programs, services, and resources offered by the library.

• I appreciate that both Dan and Lisa practice servant leadership.

• I like that Dan and Lisa both have a great sense of humor.

• I like that Dan and Lisa recognize the contributions of their staff.

• Dan and Lisa’s commitment to customer service, their visionary thinking, and dry wit make Lewis Library an inspiring and fun place to work!

• The thing that stands out to me about both Dan and Lisa is that they really look for ways for the library to be responsive and innovative.

• Dan and Lisa both notice hard work and they are always the first to point out opportunities for us to grow as professionals.

I love oh so many things about working in Lewis Library! I am excited to go to work every day because the

people who work here treat each other with respect and love their

jobs! I honestly never realized how much fun working in a library could be until I came here! Seriously, working at Lewis Library has made me fall in love with being a librarian all over

again!

Thank you for all you do for Lewis Library.Happy Boss’s Day!
