DESCRIPTION

Seventy-five years ago this year, the community of Macon pulled together their support and their resources to turn what was then known as “the Indian Mounds” into what it is today - Ocmulgee National Monument. On December 23, 1936, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the document that created the only National Monument that traces more than 10 millennia of native Southeastern culture, from Ice Age hunters to the Muskogee Creek. Now Ocmulgee is celebrating its 75th anniversary with six months of events and activities to show its appreciation to the community that made it all happen. Regular entrance is always free, as are most of the anniversary events. Come enjoy the trails, the history, and the nature that make this park a national treasure. For more information, please go to http://www.nps.gov/ocmu/, visit Ocmulgee National Monument Association on Facebook, or call (478) 752-8257.
