Objectives

The objective of the lesson is to learn the

aspects involved with the designing of a

successful logo.

Logos

Quiz – can you identify the following logos?

What do you think makes a successful

logo?

Logos

Logos are more often than not made up of three different

components – colour, font and imagery.

Colours

It is important that the correct colour is used when designing a

logo. Do you think colour can influence the way you think?

Look at the following slides.

Do not read the words just say what colour they are

written in.

Can colour influence the way you think?

Graphic styles of writing

• When designing a piece of graphics, be it a poster, package or a logo, the designer must select the right typeface.

• A typeface is a style of lettering sometimes called a font. It is as important as colour and pictures when trying to create the right image for a product.

Do you think that the same words or fonts can have different meanings depending on their style

and colour?

Think about fonts and colour. Do you think that

some fonts/colour suit some situations but not

others?

Most organisations use a visual symbol or logotype to enable the public to rapidly identify the name of the company. The best symbols are simple and distinctive, and also manage to say something about the nature and quality of the products or services on offer.

Do we really read words or just recognise their shape.

Have a look at the animation below. When the photo flashes up try and read it. What does the logo say?

Well this is what the animation above actually

said.Check out the spelling. Even though the spelling

is wrong you can still recognise the shape of font and colour.

This is the original logo.

When we read a word or a typeface we don't need to read the whole word, we merely recognise the shapes

or the colours For example - Can you read the label? Do you know what the product is?

If you can't read the writing how do you know what the product is?

What about this passage can you read it?

Task 1 – speed logo
