Dear GLA Families
and Friends,
November brings
Thanksgiving, a
school holiday, a
chance for families
and friends to gather
and eat great food and
enjoy one another’s
company. At GLA, we
have much to be
thankful for! We have
great students, teach-
ers, staff and families
that care about each
other, a beautiful
building to learn in,
community partners
who work with us, a
new health clinic that
will soon open, and
the list goes on.
To celebrate all of the
good things that hap-
pen at our school, we
like to do things for
the community when
we can. Last year,
GLA continued a Cul-
ver tradition by par-
ticipating in the
“Macaroni and Cheese
Drive for Tri-State
Food Bank” led by
math teacher Mr. Car-
son. The tradition
continues this year.
Students who donate
boxes of Mac n Cheese
can put their name in
a drawing for a pie
throwing contest at
the end of the dona-
tion drive. The ad-
ministrative team,
Mrs. Terry, Mrs.
McClure and myself,
and many teachers
have signed up to re-
ceive a pie in the face
for this worthy cause!
We have numerous
activities going on at
GLA in November.
Please check the cal-
endar at the back of
the newsletter so you
know what is happen-
ing. We hope to see
you at GLA this
month!
Sincerely,
Tammy Dexter

The 1003g grant helps
pay for an E-Learning
Coach at GLA. Mr.
Jeff Thornton is the
new E-Learning
Coach, and we are
keeping him very
busy with the netbook
roll out. Parents of
students in grades 6
through 8 should have
received a copy of a
netbook agreement
contract at the end of
October. Until those
are signed and re-
turned, middle school
students will not be
allowed to bring their
netbook home. If you
have questions or con-
cerns regarding the
technology, please
contact us! Thanks.

Family Engagement Announcement to all 3rd Grade
Parents
Our next Parent Forum will be geared toward our
3rd grade students. We will be discussing Public
Law 109 that requires all third graders to pass the
state mandated Indiana Reading Evaluation And
Determination (IREAD) assessment or be retained.
Please come out and learn more about this test and
get any questions you may have answered. Our
teachers will be available to discuss what is
currently happening in classrooms to make sure
that all students are reading on grade level or
above and are prepared to take this test.
NOTES FROM YOUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS
Thanks, Mrs. Terry
speaking with our 6-8th grade students
about proper use of their netbooks in class
and at home because very soon they will be
able to take them home. Our students are
excited about the opportunity to take home
their netbooks but we want to ask for your
assistance. You will need to remind your
child that they are renting these comput-
ers and they are responsible for keeping it
charged and working correctly. Please
know that as a parent, you have a right to
know what your child is doing with their
netbook at home and creating limits for
I want to take a moment to introduce
myself to you. My name is Jeff Thornton
and I am an eLearning coach for Glenwood
Leadership Academy. I have been a teach-
er with the EVSC now for 5 years and I
have been teaching for almost 9 years. My
main responsibility is to assist teachers
and staff with using technology in the
classroom to help our students grow and
achieve. Throughout the course of a day
many GLA students will use netbooks,
MacBooks, and Promethean Boards in
their classes. In November I will begin
their use in your home is an acceptable
thing. Students will have homework to do
using the netbook but they do not have to
continually use it. If you would like more
information about setting limits and bounda-
ries for computer use I have a website with
information for parents and I encourage you
to visit: http://mrthornton.weebly.com/for-
parents.html. Please feel free to contact me
with questions or concerns at
jeff.thornton@evsc.k12.in.us. Looking
forward to a great year at GLA!

Evansville Rescue Mission It is that time of year when our school steps up and makes an impact on our community. The Evans-
ville Rescue mission will once again be handing out Thanksgiving baskets on November 22nd. Glen-
wood has been asked to collect boxes of macaroni & cheese. They would like to have all donations by
November 18th. We are also using this as a “House” competition. So get your boxes of macaroni and
cheese turned in before the November 18th date. Good Luck to everyone. The Rescue Mission & the
families will really appreciate your help.
EVSC to Host Food Drive The EVSC is once again hosting a Food Drive to support the Tri-State Food Bank's backpack program. Nearly 12,000 EVSC students are eligible for the program that provides students with a backpack full
of food for them to eat on the weekends. To help increase the number of backpacks going home, espe-
cially during the long breaks at Thanksgiving and Christmas, the EVSC is hosting the food drive. To
ensure a variety of foods are collected, each school and building location is asked to collect certain
items (Please remember purchase pop-top lids.) The Bosse attendance district is being asked to bring
applesauce and other fruit cups. This donation will be helpful in many homes this year.
Trip to Bosse Home Game for Points Earned
In Mrs. Glass-Foster’s Science room The Interactive Simulator shows how the Earth revolves around the Sun. As
students make this happen data tables for different cities on Earth change to show the temperature and daylight hours
during the month shown, and also shows the position and tilt of the Earth from the Sun during these times.
One way GLA is using Technology
Ar’yon Huff and Tyreceo Day using the SEPUP-”View of Earth for a Year” Interactive Simulator.
