November 2016
Dear Parent and Guardians Being November we are a long ways from the Thanksgiving weekend but I
am still thankful for many things, one of them being the many volunteers
who assisted at our School Council Casino over the long weekend. We at
the school truly appreciate the time and efforts given by our parents and
friends of J. J. Bowlen on Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8. At
our next School Council meeting we will be discussing where some of the
funds will be distributed to. Our meeting will be held Monday, November
7th
, at 6:00 PM in the Library. All parents and guardians are welcome
to join us.
I remind you that we have ‘Paperless’ Report Cards at J. J. Bowlen. The
report cards will be the same as you have seen in the past but you will find
them on the parent PowerSchool account. You have the opportunity to see
them and print them yourself at home. It is important that the parent logs
on to PowerSchool to check the report card. That is the only way for
us to ensure that the parent has seen the report card. If you do not
know how to access the report card or have any issues with PowerSchool
please contact Mrs. Rattray (780 475 – 3730) at J. J. Bowlen school office
to assist you. The Report Cards will be visible for parents and students to
see from November 25 – December 9, 2016.
Our Celebration of Learning will take place on Thursday, December 1 from
1:30 pm – 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm in our gymnasium. Parents and
the student come in and meet with any of your child’s teacher as we dis-
cuss their educational future.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact myself or
the school.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP FUNDRAISING
Well J.J., it’s that time of year again…Movember!!!
Prostate Cancer is the second-leading cause of
cancer deaths in Canadian men. It has no
known causes or prevention but detection and
treatment in its earliest stages provides the best
chance for a complete cure. With that, please
help raise money, and support our male teachers
growing mustaches, to raise money for pros-
tate cancer research!
Check out the posters around the school for
upcoming bake sales and wear tie days!

GRADE 9 Take Your Child To Work Day!!
November 2nd This is not a “day off” for grade 9’s. If they will be attending work with a parent for the day, it is the students responsibly to catch up on missed assignments as well as parents should be calling in to excuse them from classes for the day. If your child is not able to go to work, they are expected to be at school in class for the day.

LET US NOT FORGET
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard among the guns below. We are the dead, short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
