FROM THE COMMODORE
November already? Seems like not
so long ago we were launching boats and doing the spring cleanup.
Just a few quick thoughts. I could
easily fill this whole jib sheet with thank you's to members for what they have con-
tributed through the year, whether it is helping a fellow member launch or haul a
boat or pitching in to clean up after an
event or raising your hand to get some-thing fixed. The level of cooperation
amongst members that I have had the
privilege to witness is truly remarkable. It
is something we should all be proud of.
As the Commodore I would like to personally thank each and every one of
you for the contributions that you have made. It has made my job a pleasure and
it is a privilege to be associated with such a great group of people.
Thanks,
Pete

WYC HAPPENINGS
We would like to send a special Thank You to
Charlie Boucher, Rob Johnson, Jon Muller, Sandy Storer, Dave Richardson and Lee
Willett for replacing the wooden wall at the shoreline of the swimming area.
HOUSE COMMITTEE
HAM & BEAN SUPPER
On October 16, over 80 members
and guests mourned the end of summer and celebrated a successful haul out by
attending the “occasional” Ham and Bean Supper. There was a lot of boisterous dis-
cussion about the season just past and the winter ahead.
Peter and Alida Millham and Gail and
Rod Dyer acted as hosts assisted by Caro-lyn Scattergood, Al and Annie Posnack,
and Lee and Janice Donahue.
Be forewarned, they may be tempted to try it again!
THANK YOU
I'd like to thank the following Yacht
Club members in helping me paint the dingy dock: Steve and Chris Fay, Dave
Richardson, Robert Johnson and my wife Alley.
A special thank you to Dave and Ka-
tie Ewing for donating the cost of the sup-plies to paint the dock.

LUNCH AT THE YACHT YARD
COLD DUCK RACE
WYC HAPPENINGS CONT.
The 42nd annual Cold Duck Race was held in typical Cold Duck condi-
tions with a little rain, a little cold and a good stiff breeze. Overall the event had the look, feel and excitement of past events with 20 boats and
over 60 sailors participating in racing and cruising classes.
This year’s fleet was broken into two starts, with 12 non-spinnaker
racers going off first followed about 7 minutes later by the 8 spinnaker boats. Our fleet was diverse, ranging from a home built Core Sound 17 to
a classic L-33 in the cruising fleet and from an F31 tri hull to an L-16 in
the Racing fleet.
We quickly spread out over the lake on a course that took us from
the WYC, around Middle-Ground Shoal and back to the club. The course
was perfect for the breeze and we returned in time to enjoy our famous
Cold Duck Chili and Dark and Stormy’s.
Many of the participants remarked on what a great event this was,
and the club had a great feel as sailors and guests enjoyed telling their
stories and simply enjoying each other’s company. The racing was great,
the food was better and the friendship and comradeship was unsurpassed!
The overall trophy for the boat winning their class by the largest
margin (corrected time) went to Don Parsons. The Cold Chicken went to
Chris Weinmann and Jim Rogato.
Special thanks go out to our Race Committee (Mike Curtin, Don Roper, Larry (LML) Routhier and Rolly (boy I love this boat!)Mailloux, our
chili committee (Don Roper, Chuck Coons, Bruce Johnson, Kevin Coons,
Steve Nix, Mike Curtin and anyone who I may have forgotten). We un-
veiled a new perpetual trophy and a new chicken. This year’s prizes were arranged by Roberta Coffee of Corporate Images (Dick Waite would have
been proud!).
Thanks to everyone, and sorry if I missed anybody.

COLD DUCK — FINAL RESULTS
Fall came way to fast this year, es-
pecially when the last couple weeks of September were so gorgeous.
Haulout prep day was September
28th. We were able to get all but one bro-ken tie replaced, fixed some curb rail, and
thanks to Al Herte, got the weed whacking done. Trailers got moved, the car wheels
got greased, and, under the TLC of Dave
Keller and Sandy Storer, the winch truck was once again made ready to pull. A
smaller crew including proposed members Seth Keller and Jeff Rabinowicz rebuilt the
platforms platform supports on the car and made it a little stronger. Thanks to
Adrian Curtis for fastening all of the hard-ware back on.
Haulout was held on Saturday, Oc-tober 12th under less than the ideal
weather that had been forecast. A cold, raw wind kicked up from the East that
made the day seem like November and gave the car crew a little anxiety getting
some of the boats on their cradles. In to-tal, 14 cradle boats and 3 trailer boats
were hauled, but the best part of haulout was coffee by Laura Cameron and Dave
Williams (including fresh lemon poppy seed bread, pumpkin bread, and bananas
along with the regular fare) and our tradi-
tional hot pastrami lunch served up by Rob Johnson and John Heckman. That
really hit the spot!
Pulling boats off the car with Scott
Davis’s truck before pulling them into po-
sition with the winch truck made the work go faster. Pete’s tractor made pulling the
trailer boats easy. Fortunately, there was plenty of help to move cradles and boats
around and we were done by 2:00. It was good to see so many members participat-
ing or coming down for the camaraderie and many proposed members learning the
process.
John Knox and I will be turning off
the water on or about Monday, October 29th. PLEASE----
Pick up any loose debris, lumber, or unused cover materials and take
them home. Make certain halyards are fastened so
they don’t slap all winter. Mark your trailers with your name on
the tongue so I can easily identify it. Call me if you have any questions or
special needs as to where your trailer gets parked.
Thanks once again for all who pitch in to make the Yardmaster’s job easy, es-
pecially Steve Fay who does all of the books for us and takes care of the little
issues that crop up for me.
Have a great winter. Let’s target Launch
2014 for May 10th.
