If you love to share intimate moments of relaxation in the bath, choose a comfortable, ergonomic style such as an asymmetric corner tub for two people sitting side by side. Or how about a rectangular model in which you can lie next to each other. Don’t forget, however, that the larger the bath the more it will cost in hot water. And if space allows, why not add an extra bathroom?

However, before choosing any of these options, the available space must be ascertained, as it is impossible to create a central island in a kitchen which has a surface area inferior to 15-20 m2 (160-215 ft2). The reason for this is simple: a space of at least 60 cm (24 in) must be planned on either side of the island to allow adequate room for circulation and up to 120 cm (48 in) of associated space when a dishwasher is incorporated. If a cooking space is planned, it’s recommended to allow 40 cm (15 in) on each side of the cooktop for the removal of hot cooking pots. Once this is said, if the island is used exclusively as a storage unit, 80 cm (30 in) is ample space for good circulation.

Aquariums are becoming more and more popular. In fact an aquarium can be an interesting focal point for those who know how to integrate it into the decor.
Aquariums aren’t as square as they used to be; they’ve become much trendier! Aquariums now have more modern designs: integrated into wood or varnished furniture, corner units, or all-glass with spherical contours, etc. It’s easy to make an aquarium the central point of a living room or a dining room.
If aquarium distributors have been pouring over their design tables, some furnishing stores have also included unusual aquariums on their order forms. It’s not out of the ordinary, therefore, to find the most audacious of models not at the pet store but at a furniture retailer. Even more proof that the aquarium has become a popular item in interior design. However, before opting for one of these stylish aquariums, be sure to check that the filter and other equipment is working properly and is easily accessible. If this breaks down it will have to be replaced to prevent the marine habitat from dying.
After bringing it home, comes the task of decorating the interior of the aquarium. It’s recommended to do some sketches and to try different things before introducing the water. Once it’s filled with water it’s almost impossible to change the decor. For a spectacular result, the exterior of the back glass can be painted black. On a dark background, the effect of depth is more accentuated as are the bright colours of the fish, the plants and the corals.

Adding a pond is an ideal way of bestowing life and beauty to a landscape design. These days, preformed ponds are available which can be easily integrated into an existing garden. However, once it has been installed the pond must be embellished to lend it charm and beauty. And how it is embellished will determine the character of the pond: classic, bog, rustic, swamp, etc.
Traditional garden ponds are usually enhanced with a variety of well-known aquatic plants. When the edges of a pond stay fairly cool, plants suitable for acidic soils can be used to create a bog garden. Or why not play with contrasts by creating delicate-looking borders filled with heathers and backed by country-style plants such as mountain laurels or hardy rhododendrons. Adding ferns, which adapt well to either town or country settings, will help to give an airy look to any garden. To establish a swamp garden use different types of wetland plants around the edges of the pond.
A water garden is made up of many different types of plants: some grow completely submerged; others mainly under the water, but sending leaves up to the surface; others keep only their roots below the waterline; a few pond plants do not need soil and instead float on the water surface. Invasive plants should be avoided on the pond’s edges as well as in the water.
The choice of plants determines the character of the water garden.

Each piece of furniture, chosen for its functionalism or its design, should be judiciously positioned not to encroach on the work space. Shelves or a bookcase could take up a wall to stack books and other work documents. Storage boxes can be added to minimize the scattering of papers.
