Meet BobHis mother’s birthday is just around

the corner.

He has been chosen by family membersto plan her birthday party.

He will need to shop at various stores for foodand party supplies.

He will also be responsible for sending outthe party invitations.

Planning this party will teach Bob aValuable lesson about nouns.

Here is Bob’s List:

Buy a gift

Buy groceries

Send out invitations

Let’s follow Bob as he planshis mother’s party

and learns about nouns along the way.

A noun is a word that names a person, place or thing

Examples:

Person = boyPlace = store

Thing = gift

A common noun names any person, place or thing. It begins with a

lowercase letter.

Hi, I’m Lisa. Hi Lisa. I’m Bob. I need help finding some groceries for my

mother’s party.

I need plates, cups and napkins.

I’d be happy to show you where they are. Will you be needing ice cream and cake?

No, Mr. Lee is bringing the ice cream. My

sister, Sarah, is bringing the cake.

Wonderful! The napkins are over there. Have fun at the

party!

A proper noun names a particular person, place or thing. Each important

word of a proper noun begins with a capital letter.

Hey Sarah! Thanks for agreeing to help me with

the invitations for the party.

Who do you have left on your list to invite?

Mr. and Mrs. Watson, Aunt Shirley, Uncle Brian and Dr.

Mr. and Mrs. Watson live on Cherry Street. Aunt Shirley lives on Maple Ave in Adel, Iowa. Dr. Phillips lives

on Baker Street in London, England. I hope he can make it to the party.

Don’t forget to mention that the party will be in May at Mom’s favorite

restaurant, Italian Grill. Let’s hurry and finish so we can mail them at the post

office.

After the party…
