• Septimius Severus only appointed Knights of Military training to administrative positions and excluded the senators. This stopped the sharing of power between the senate and the emperor. He did this to prevent disorder and rebellion within the state. From then on, the emperor had total control of the government. However, the emperor had to treat the military well because he needed their support to stay in power.
