LINCOLN HEIGHTS CHARTER HIGH SCHOOLLOCATION | LINCOLN HEIGHTS, CA

EVERY SCHOOL NEEDS A FIELD. FURTHERMORE, EVERY COMMUNITY NEEDS A RECREATIONAL SPACE. LINCOLN HEIGHTS HAS A RECREATIONAL AREA THAT IS NEXT TO THE PROPOSED SITE FOR THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL; HOWEVER, IT IS CURRENTLY DIFFICULT TO ACCESS AND IT IS UNDER-UTILIZED. BY RETRO-FITTING THE FIELD AREA, THE SCHOOL AS WELL AS THE FIELD BENEFIT. THUS, THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO INTEGRATE THE FIELD AND THE HIGH SCHOOL. FURTHERMORE, THIS SAME IDEA OF INTEGRATION INFLUECED THE CLASSROOM DESIGN. CLASSROOMS WERE DESIGNED IN CLUSTERS THAT ATTACH TO A SHARED ATRIUM SPACE. THE INTERIOR OF THE CLUSTERS CAN BE CHANGED TO ALLOW FOR SHARED LEARNING BETWEEN DIFFERENT SUBJECTS.

IF THE HIGH SCHOOL WAS RESTRAINED BY THE SITE BOUNDRIES.

HIGH SCHOOL OPENS UP AND REACHES OUT TO ITS SURROUNDINGS.

RESULT OF BREAKING SITE BOUNDRIES.

PROPOSED SITE. THE SITE FOR THE SCHOOL IS 16FT. HIGHER THAN THE RECREATIONAL PARK AND FIELD THAT IS DIRECTLY NEXT TO IT.

DIRT REMOVAL REQUIRED FOR SUBTERANEAN PARKING. IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO RE-MOVE THIS AMOUNT OF DIRT AND IT IS NOT SUSTAINABLE TO DO SO.

INSTEAD OF REMOVING A LARGE AMOUNT OF DIRT FOR SUBTERANEAN PARKING, A SMALL AMOUNT IS REMOVED FOR A RAMP. PARKING IS MOVED TO THE FIELD AND REMOVED DIRT IS USED TO EXTEND THE SIDEWALK. THE MONEY SAVED FROM NOT HAVING SUBTERANEAN PARKING IS USED TO RETROFIT THE NEIGHBORING FIELD AND REC. CENTER.

4 UNIT LOW RISE DEVELOPMENTLOCATION | PASADENA, CACONCEPT | DESIGN UNITS THAT CAN TRANSFORM AND ADAPT TO PEOPLE’S CHANGING LIVES.

MANY OF THE WALLS IN THE UNITS CAN MOVE TO ENLARGE SPACES OR CREATE NEW SPACES. THE UNITS ARE MADE FROM PREFABRICATED MODULES. THERE IS A SLEEPING, EATING, LIVING, AND PARKING MODULE. EACH OF THESE MOD-ULES IS CREATED FROM A KIT OF PARTS. CLIENTS CAN CHOOSE THE PARTS THEY MOST DESIRE BEFORE CONSTRUCTION.

48 UNIT MID RISE BUILDINGLOCATION | CULVER CITY, CACONCEPT | ALLOW USERS THE SAME AMENITIES THAT SUBURBIA OFFERS IN THE CITY. THE PROJECT CHALLENGED THE STAN-DARD MID RISE LIVING MODEL AND WAS INFLUENCED BY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CAR AND THE UNIT.

SUBURBIA WAS NOT LITERALLY PUT INTO THE CITY, BUT IT WAS ADAPTED TO THE CITY AND THE CHANGING LOS ANGELES CULTURE. SOME OF THE AMENITIES IN THE UNITS INCLUDE PARKING IN YOUR DWELLING SPACE, PRIVATE GREEN SPACE, AND OPEN AIR SPACE. AFTER DRIVING INTO A CAR ELEVATOR, CARS CAN PULL INTO THE UNITS. ELECTRIC CARS CAN PLUG IN TO THE DWELLING SPACE. AS PEOPLE IN LOS ANGELES OFTEN USE THEIR CARS AS A SECOND OFFICE, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DWELLING SPACE TO ADAPT TO THIS PHENOMENON AND TO USE AS ADDITIONAL PROGRAM.

A NEWER AND MORE OPEN BATHROOM WAS DESIRED BY THE CLIENT. THE ENTIRE BATHROOM WAS DEMOLISHED. DEMO INCLUDED THE SHOWER AREA, ALL OF THE TILE, DRY WALL, COUNTERS, AND DIVIDER WALL. A NEW TUB WAS INSTALLED AND HALF WALLS WERE INSTALLED AROUND THE TUB. THE TILING AROUND THE TUB AS WELL AS THE FLOORS WAS ALL RE-DONE.NEW FIXTURES WERE INSTALLED AS WELL AS NEW BASEBOARD AND CHAIR RAIL.

PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO REMODELLOCATION | WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA

A PHOTOGRAPHER FOR VOGUE ACQUIRED A BUILDING IN WEST HOLLYWOOD, PREVIOUSLY USED FOR FURNITURE MANU-FACTURING, AND DESIRED TO TURN IT INTO A PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO. ALL INTERIOR WALLS AND ELEMENTS WERE DEMOL-ISHED. THE EXTERIOR WALLS WERE KEPT INTACT. THE CEILING AND BRICK WALLS WERE PAINTED WHITE AND BLEACHED PLYWOOD ELEMENTS WERE ADDED TO THE SPACE THAT HOUSED NEW PROGRAMS.
