2017 Homecoming Royalty
Kristin (Westlund) Kresal and Wiley Kessinger
Homecoming 2017 was a balmy day with bright sunshine and cool breezes.
Over one hundred people attended the activities on Saturday, September 16,
which included the chapel program on Shakespearean plays and the ever
popular tailgate party. Meeting old friends and new ones transformed Main
Hall with laughter, smiles and lots of reminiscing.
In addition to the Saturday event, 19 attended the golf gathering organized
by Cindy Merwin Kahl and fifty attended the meal at Buckhorn Supper
Club on Friday. Several got together for a goodbye breakfast the next morn-
ing. Those not golfing Friday morning toured the Milton House Museum
and had lunch at an old stomping ground, The Owls Club (now Lucy’s Hide-
out) thanks to Cheri Welch.
Coordinating other activities with the MCPS events makes a very rewarding
weekend for all and MCPS board and staff encourage others to participate in
this way. Let the staff and board members know how they can help. Next
year’s date is Saturday September 15, 2018.

In Memorial
The passing of Lucille Wells Sunby left a large
hole in the hearts of the Milton College family
and the Milton Community. In her 101 years,
Lucille always had a smile on her face and al-
ways, always greeted you warmly. She and Louie
were a “team” throughout their lives and one of
Milton College’s best cheerleaders.
Lucille was a member of the class of 1938 and
then worked at the College in the business office,
where many came in positive contact with her.
Her legacy at Milton will continue as the
memorial funds given in her memory help to
keep the spirit alive Milton College.
Ken Leiser and spouse made a long over
due visit to campus this summer. Ken lives
in Mundelein IL.

Volunteers Wanted-Everyone Qualifies!
Note from Judy MCPS Administrator
2017 was a tremendous year at Main Hall, not only with the accomplishments, but with the sup-
port that was received. The Public Library project was a giant step in ensuring the future of Mil-
ton College history. In addition, the repairs made to Main Hall this year with the help of private
funding and volunteers, as well as the organizing of the archives, have been noteworthy. There
is a light at the end of the tunnel in the archive organization and hopefully in the next few years there
will be a chart to the location of files. So many interesting items are found that an article is being written
for the local newspaper periodically. If you are not on Facebook, you are also missing the photos and arti-
cles posted as time permits.
Several have asked why we use real stamps instead of bulk mailing. It was discovered that many people
did not receive their newsletter when bulk mail was used, or it was received many weeks later. This, in
addition to the high cost of the permit, the price per piece and the stringent regulations attached to pre-
paring the mailing, led to the decision to send members the newsletter first class. After all, MCPS mem-
bers are 1st class and need to be treated as such. What was not foreseen was the wonderful support of
some of the members that send stamps on a regular basis that greatly reduces the postage costs.
The same goes for supplies and gift cards that can be used at stores, reducing the operating budget. Two
gifts cards received recently were used for refreshments for homecoming and archival supplies (each photo
box is $20). (Nice to go to the store and buy office supplies when you find them on sale, too.)
The very best part of MCPS is you, the member. I have met so many grand people in the last 15 years
(yikes 15 years!) Many I now think of as friends and look forward to catching up each year at homecoming
or just when they stop to visit Main Hall. Their passing also greatly saddens me.
Let us continue this upward trend, not only for the memories but for unique history that unfolds. Mem-
bership renewals will be sent in December. Please renew early. MCPS and Main Hall are funded solely
by donations and fundraisers. Be generous and encourage others to join.
WOW!!
Lynn Burns quickly organized an online Milton College apparel sale that was too
late to get into the newsletter. For those that do not follow Facebook or do not have
an email address we apologize for not getting the word to you. Ninety-six pieces
were ordered and netted a profit for the organization of $1258.00.
Another sale will be in February or March. Particulars will be in the Winter news-
letter. For those that do not order online, ordering may be done by contacting staff
and ordering with payment to the MCPS.
