President’s Post

Greetings everyone! It has already been a busy summer and I am enjoying watching many of you being involved in the programs at Beautiful Savior. The Friday Night Game Nights, Mystery Dinner, and Vacation Bible School have all been successful, and I’m looking forward to the Chili and Pie cook-off on August 17th.

VBS Success – Thank you to everyone who helped make Vacation Bi-ble School a success this year! I got to be the crew leader for the 2nd and 3rd graders and was constantly impressed by the planning, coordination and energy that went into making VBS successful.

Roofing Project - Last year we had a successful fund-raising campaign to pay for repairs to the roof over the Narthex and covered breezeway. The Sanctuary and Parish Hall roofs are in poor condi-tion and must be replaced also. Bids were received last year, and each will cost approximately $25,000. We already have $10,000 in designated donations for this work, so another $15,000 needs to be raised to do the next phase.

LutherInn Basement Floor - The vinyl floor in the basement of Lu-therInn, which is used as our main pre-K classroom, is being replaced this summer by volunteers. If you have time to help with this project, let Bill Kittler know. Donations are also being accepted to defray the cost

Church Picnic Round 2 - The Men’s Group is hosting a church picnic on August 25th beginning at 11:15, after the 2nd service. This will be a celebration of summer and a kick-off of the new school year for all the children and parents in attendance.

In preparation for the onsite picnic, an all-hands work party has been called for the morning of Saturday, Au-gust 24th. The Parish Hall is rented that day, so all the workers will need to be gone by noon. Donuts and cof-fee will be served in LutherInn for the workers beginning at 8AM.

Thanks for your continued support!

Lord’s Prayer- The Prayer that

Shapes Your Life.

“Pray continually, rejoice always, and give thanks in all circumstances” (I Thessalonians 5:17)

When Jesus’ disciples said, “Lord, teach us to pray”, he gave them this prayer as a model to pray like Him. Jesus knows that because of our sinfulness, we can find prayer to be difficult. Surprisingly we can for-get that when we pray this prayer, we are praying the very prayer that the Son of God taught us to pray. This news can be amazingly comforting and bold, as the words that we say is what God wants us to lift up. We are not asking of God anything that He does not already want us to ask from Him, since we are using His own words.

As we dig into the Lord’s Prayer and see how it enriches our lives of faith. Take some time this month and reflect on what you are actually saying

What do you find is the most shocking petition?

What is easy to pray about the Lord’s prayer?

What are some of the hardest parts for you to pray in it?

What changes is it asking you to make in your life?

How could you or your family use the Lord’s Prayer in your daily lives?

This prayer just like our salvation is one that hits on many levels. God has already accomplished this prayer. Yet it is also the prayer that is shaping and molding us as Christians. So, over the next few weeks re-flect on what you are saying and how God wants you to live and pray.

Scam alert

Recently a few members received an email that seemed to be from me. It was asking for gift cards to help a family in need. Such scams are either spoof email addresses or create look alike emails and will end with the pastor’s name. This scam is sadly an all too common reality today. It has happened a few times while I have been here and I receive several from pastors of the same nature. Jennifer Leach, the assistant director in the FTC’s Division of Consumer and Business Education said, “Scammers are good at convincing people there really is an emergency, so lots of people have made the trip to the Walmart or Target or CVS to buy gift cards to send these callers. And scammers love gift cards - it’s one

of their favorite ways to get your money. These cards are like giving cash - and nearly untraceable, unless you

act almost immediately.” If you or someone you know received one of these emails there are several things you can do. One is to

verify in person or by phone any request involving money or personal information. Email and text messages are convenient but are easy to fake. If you have fallen for a scam, you can contact the company that you bought the card from. Sometimes they are able to trace the information. Agencies also urge you to contact the police if you fell victim to such a scam. Finally, the FTC has an online complaint page where you can enter your information www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov .

Remember that Jesus says “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, be as shrewd as

snakes and as innocent as doves.” Along with that we are called “Forgive just as you have been forgiven.”

This year we went on an African safari. On our journey we followed the Israelites out of Egypt, through the wilderness leading to the promise land. But before that we learned about God’s great plan that leads us to him at the foot of the cross. We thank God for all the work that made VBS Sunday happen. We had a wonderful turnout. The kids also did a great job collecting for Luther-an Community Services and Refugees NW.

Thank you to everyone who helped make ROAR VBS a success! There were 51 children who learned that when Life is unfair, scary, changing,

sad and good...God is good! VBS would not have happened without these people:

Opening, Closing and Music... Pastor Chris, Krista Johnson

KidVid Cinema...Keisha Howell

Spotlight...Kathy Fenster

Hungry Herd Café...Doris and Floyd Moe, Carolyn McCosk-ery, Bridget Henshaw

Stampede Sports...Phil Zafft, Gavin McCoskery, Hayet Alazar

Elder’s Corner –

Free! Free! Have you seen any offers of free stuff? Come to an informational meeting and you will receive some free food or a free promotional item of your choice or a free vacation at a resort. Free cellphones or television programming when you join their plan. But being the skeptic that I am, I always wonder “what’s the catch?” And looking at the fine print at the bot-tom of the offer, there it is. Trapped in some room with a high-pressure salesperson to con-vince you to invest or buy something you don’t really want or need. Or locked into a phone or television plan for years that is higher than you want. My dad used to say, “Nothing is free!”

But there is one thing that is truly free. It comes with no strings attached. There is nothing you need to do to receive this free gift. In fact, there is nothing you could do to earn it. And this gift lasts forever. “For it is by grace you are saved, through faith. It is a gift of God.” (Eph 2:8). Your eternal life is a gift from God. The requirement to earn the gift has been paid by Jesus Christ. No strings attached. You are guaranteed a place with God forever. Starting now. Noth-ing in life can earn this gift. How do you get it? All you do is accept it. Open your hands, your heart for what God is given to you. You can’t make it happen. It already has happened. You can’t earn it by doing anything. It is all FREE.

Praise God, who provides everything for us, including FREE eternal life with Him.
