is our goal. (GDC 80)

Jesus Christcommunion with

Jesus ChristGOOD NEWS

He is the fullnessof revelation

Our communion with him leads to a deep relationship with the Father, the Holy Spirit and the Church. (81)

Adult Catechesis is a priority.

Children and youth catecheses culminate in adult catechesis. (171)

Adult catechesis helps the faithful

To mature in their faith,

To assume responsibility for the Church’s mission,

To give Christian witness in society. (175)

“Baptismal Catechumenate” is the faith-journey of a candidate for the Sacraments of initiation(88, 89)

The four stages of the Journey

seeks to capture the wisdom Post-baptismal Catechesis of the Baptismal Catechumenate

and apply it to form a true school of faith. (91)

is to know, celebrate, live and contemplatethe Mystery of Christ. (85)

The task of Catechesis

Know: what we believe (content of faith)

Celebrate: we celebrate what we believe (liturgy/sacraments)

Live: we live and share what we believe and celebrate (life-witness)

Contemplate: we contemplate

what we believe and celebrate (prayer).

Other tasks of catechesis are: (86)+ To educate to community life+ To initiate to mission apostolate.

Ecclesial in nature, catechesis draws its message from “Scripture-Tradition-Magisterium”

Catechesis is essentially an act of the Church (78)

Ministry of the Word

is closely connected: (94, 96)

Its three-fold principal and living source

the written Word of God,1) Sacred Scripture:

2) Apostolic Tradition: the Word of Godentrusted by Christ to the apostles,

3) Church Magisterium: the Word of God as authentically interpreted by the Church.

The “Catechism of the Catholic Church” (yr. 1992) is a statement of Catholic doctrine attested to by this 3-fold source.

The “CCC” is the standard summary of the whole Catholic faith. (120)

Christian Community is homefor catechesis. (253-263)

This community has a variety of expressions:

1) Family: the “Domestic Church” where parents are the primary educators in

the faith;

pre-eminent place for catechesis;2) Parish: the prime mover and

3) Catholic schools: the most important placefor human and Christian

formation;

4) Christian associations and movements:where the laity are formed to fulfill

theirmission in the Church and in the world;

5) Basic Ecclesial Communities: small communities where Christian life

is more intensely lived.

How God teaches is our model. (143)

God revealed himself to humankind. The Pedagogy of God is the way

to peoples and cultures.

2. God gradually reveals himself and adapts

(“pedagogy of the incarnation”).

3. Jesus Christ is at the center of this revelation

is important (God’s people, Church).

4. The community-experience of faith

5. Inter-personal relationship is vital to the process.

6. Words and deeds are closelyconnected (pedagogy of signs).

7. The Holy Spirit is the source of love and power.

Evangelization is perceived in a new way. (27)

Evangelization is the process by which the Church proclaims and spreads the Gospel throughout the entire world. (48)

Evangelization is necessary linked to

1)dialogue with the world,

2) human development,

3) different cultures,

(urgent quest for Christian unity).4) different religions

of the believer. (30-33)

School of Christian Pedagogyforms the personality

Catechesis initiates and gives training to Christian discipleship and apostleship.

It is a school where one grows in holiness.

Inculturation is necessary.

(the first inculturation of the Word of God). (109)

By his incarnation, the Son of God lived amongus in a specific time, place and culture

Catechesis is called to bring the power of the Gospel into the very heart ofcultures (inculturation). (202)

Inculturation is the process by which the Gospel penetrates the deepest

levels of peoples and cultures. (109)

of Christian witness.

Social obligations of

faith forms part

it in their lives (witnessing). (24)

who are conscious of their faith Catechesis forms Christians

and who acts consistently with

An important commitment of this witnessing concerns the social obligations of faith.

To this end the “social doctrine of the Church” is an integral part of adult catechesis. (175)
