CONGREGATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
2012NEW PURPOSES FOR OLD
BUILDINGS
Why talk about this?
Every month four Episcopal Churches close their doors for good.
They close for lack of financial sustainability and the people power to manage the facility.
They close for lack of energy to maintain worship/sense of mission and purpose.
THE DOMESTIC CHURCH
Ten year decline in active membership of 16%
Ten year decline in Average Sunday Attendance of 23%
Ten year decline in Plate/Pledge of 12.7%
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
A DEEPER LOOK AT THE STATS
Membership: Declined overall by 27%. Thirteen churches reported increases between 2001 and 2010.
Average Sunday Attendance: Declined overall by 35%. Seven churches reported increases between 2001 and 2010.
Plate/Pledge: Overall $212,731 (2%) increase in plate/pledge between 2001 and 2010 due to increases reported by 28 out of 68 churches between 2001 and 2010.
AND THEN THERE’S INFLATION
In 2010 it cost approximately $123 to purchase the same goods and services purchased in 2001 for $100.
WE HAVE CHOICES
A. Do nothing and let’s see what happens…
A HOUSE OF SPIRITS
Is this what we mean by higher education?
Or
