Standard overview

IEC 61000-4-31

Testing and measurement techniques AC mains ports broadband conducted disturbance immunity (IEC 61000-4-31)

IntroductionSo far covered with IEC 61000-4-6: Disturbances coming from intended radio-frequency (RF) transmitters.Increase of conducted disturbances caused by broadband signal sources on AC mains ports

Intended:Power line telecommunications (PLT)

Conducted broadband disturbance

Unintended:Other noises generated by connected electrical and electronic equipment to the AC mains network

IEC 61000-4-31

Coupling/Decouping Network for DM (CDND)

CMDM

Brodband noise DM = Differential modeCM = Common mode

Coupling NetworksCoupling of the broadband test signal Common mode / differential mode impedanceDecoupling function to other devices are not under testCDNDs (D stands for differential) for AC ports and CDNs (IEC 61000-4-6) for all other ports

CDND according IEC 61000-4-31Frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHzLongitudinal conversion loss (LCL) of 16 dB in order to couple the common mode signal as well as the differential mode signal simultaneously to the EUT line

UCM (common modeasymm.mode)

UDM (diff.-mode, balanced or symm. mode)

UDM

Balanced pair

LCL Example:

LCL = 0 dB, UDM = UCM

LCL = 16 dB, 1/6.3 x UDM = UCM

LCL = 20 dB, 1/10 x UDM = UCM

LCL = 40 dB, 1/100 x UDM = UCM

LCL = 60 dB, 1/1000 x UDM = UCM

LCL = 80 dB, 1/10000 x UDM = UCM𝐿𝐿𝐿𝐿𝐿𝐿 = 20 ∗log ( UDM/UCM)

Coupling Network

CMDM

Brodband noise

LCL = 16 dB, UDM /6.3 = UCM

UDM = 6.3 x UCM

CDND according IEC 61000-4-31Common mode (CM) impedance 25 ΩDifferential mode (DM) impedance 100 ΩDecoupling >15 dB

Testing and measurement techniques – Radiated fields in close proximity - immunity test (IEC 61000-4-39)

IntroductionIncrease of RF sources in the near fieldChange form broadcast transmitting antennas on the hill to the phone in every pocket

IntroductionExamples of RF sources in the near fieldThe possibility is given that such a RF source comes to a close distance and could influence the environment. Typical situations are in air planes, cars and in the medical environment.The advice to switch off the devices is often not possible.The way out is to make the devices immune against near field disturbances.
