Moses had led the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. When they came to the Promised Land, God told them to go in and possess the land. The people were too afraid and refused to obey God. Their unbelief resulted in wandering in the wilderness for many years.
Forty years later in the land of Moab, Moses’ time of leadership had come to an end. God chose Joshua to be the leader of His people. Joshua would lead them into the Promised Land. Joshua had been Moses’ right hand man for forty years. He watched as Moses endured hostility, anger and discouragement, but he also witnessed how God was always with him.
Joshua, no doubt, faced fear as he considered his commission and responsibility. However, he had a promise. God told Joshua that He would be with him just as He was with Moses. What an encouragement that must have been to Joshua! Joshua conquered his fear by trusting and relying on God.
At times, we will all face fears, but, when we abide close to God and trust in Him, He will see us through the difficult times.
Deuteronomy 3:7-13, 23; 34:5-9; Joshua 1:1-9
Joshua Conquers Fear
