TEACHING INSIGHT
Teaching is the highest form of understanding and a teacher who cannot keep students involved and excited for several hours in the classroom should not be there.
PURPOSE OF THE PORTFOLIO
The intent of this portfolio is to provide and share experiences and
ideas to those who will undergo the same undertakings. The content of
this portfolio will help future mentors design a model of curriculum
demonstrating considerations for basic and higher education, appropriate
community linkages and stakeholders, address the monitoring of
curriculum implementation and assessment of curriculum, and prepare
an alignment of developing objectives, pedagogy and assessment. This
portfolio is intended to introduce the education pre-service students to
effective curriculum design and assessment.
This portfolio will serve as a tool for information sources.
Acknowledgement
This portfolio will never be accomplished without
the help, support and encouragement of these people.
And because of that I would like to acknowledge these
people who helped me finish this portfolio. First, our God
Almighty, for without Him I will never have the strength
to go on everyday. Second, my family, who supported me
all throughout this semester. Third, my teacher, Dr.
Elena C. Balcueva and my critic teacher, Mrs. Merlita
Cardiño, they have imparted enough knowledge for me
to finish this portfolio. And lastly, my friends/classmates
who never got tired of helping me every now and then.
Dedication
I would like to dedicate this portfolio, first to our
God Almighty. To my ever supportive and loving family, I
hope they are proud of what I have accomplished. My
teacher, Dr. Elena C. Balcueva, I hope she’s satisfied
with my work. Mrs. Merlita Cardiño, my critic teacher, I
would also like to thank her for not getting tired of us
despite of some inconvenience. And my
friends/classmates, who never got tired of helping me.
Thank you, for all the effort you have exerted and
your support. You were my inspiration while completing
this task.
Teacher’s Prayer
I want to teach my students how-- To live this life on earth,
To face its struggles and its strife And to improve their worth.
Not just the lesson in a book, Or how the rivers flow,
But to choose the proper path, Wherever they may go.
To understand eternal truth, And know right from wrong, And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song,
For if I help the world to grow In wisdom and grace,
Then I feel that I have won And I have filled my place.
And so I ask your guidance, God That I may do my part,
For character and confidence And happiness of heart.
To educate is to become a better educated. It is circular process that improves
with time; we believe the responsibility of educators is to provide students with the necessary
knowledge and skills to succeed in academic, business and personal arenas. Our teaching
philosophy is based on the belief that education is a solution to many social problems. Education
provides the tools to make informed decisions, synthesize ideas, and critically evaluate relevant
issues and to enjoy life. Therefore pursuing knowledge and working to improve our skills as an
educator are among our highest priorities.
As an educator, we will strive to encourage excellence in our students and
ourselves. Course material should be challenging, interactive and relevant to current issues and
events. Students learn and retain more information if the material is presented in an environment
that is interesting and interactive. For this reason, we believe that using a variety of multimedia
including video, slides, and the internet, is an effective way to complement traditional course
lectures remains the foundation of the educational experience. We feel that we can encourage
students to seek new knowledge and explore their own ideas by an enthusiastic presentation of
both what is. And what is not known about subjects. When appropriate, the classroom setting
should be expanded to include experience in the field. What better way to make the necessary
connections among biological concepts than by observing how organisms interact with their
environment?
In our interaction with students, we will strive always to be respectful, especially
when dealing with differing opinions that may arise as product of scientific thinking. We want
our student to learn to think critically, not merely to accept our ideas and opinions; our drive to
pursue higher education was due in part to several teachers who inspired catalyst for other
people to pursue their dreams.

School planning, organization and management is directly related to human and physical resources. The basic behind it, is that school should be able to utilize all the resources in best possible way, so that they prove to be successful in performing their duties. For performing their duties, school employees and teachers require an effective leadership but at the same time they require a good and conducive environment in the school for their proper functioning.
It is essential to know what students learn and under what conditions, in order to assess whether schools are useful and effective. Quality learning can take place only when children and youth feel welcome in school and are in good health, allowing the learner space and time to interact within the learning and teaching process.

There were two learning resource center in Napocor Elementary School. One is Library/LRC(A)- Social Studies and the other one is the Math Learning Resource Center and the other one is the Science Learning Resource Center. The learning resources or materials in LRC-A and the Science Learning Resource Learning Center were arranged properly according to their functions and characterisitics. It is also free of dust and moisture. It has a Print Section Area which includes Circulation Area, Children’s Area, Reference Section, Reading Area, Filipiniana Section, Fiction Section, Periodicals Area and the Faculty Section. However, the Math Learning Resource Center was topsy-turvy. According to the Learning Center In-charge, it is not well arranged because most of the musical instruments that are used during the practice for the drum and buggle corp for the awaited fiesta celebration are placed inside the learning center.
On the other hand, The Non-Print Section is also found and it houses all the educational software and hardware of the unit. It efficiently maintains and updates the audio-visual materials and equipment which enhances and supports the teaching and learning processes. The Section offers a wide range of educational software such as audio tapes, video tapes, transparencies, records, compact discs, CD-ROMS, VCDs and DVDs, and hardware like CD players/recorders, overhead projectors (OHP), and VHS players.
The guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers because they are posted or available for the users to refer to. They are well written and are visible to the users of the learning resources.
The LRC provides books and other print materials and multi-media resources to meet the instructional needs of the community. These resources are properly managed and fully utilized with the expertise of the media librarians and skilled library staff.
The Learning Resource Center/LRC-A has a little or no enough space and offers a limited sitting capacity. It also cannot accommodate a one classroom section because of its limited area that several chairs would not fit to it. The learning resource center can only accommodate at about 20 students. On the other hand, even if it is equipped with the print and non-print materials, still some of it is already outdated and some computers are not operating. Also, other materials or equipment’s not related to the learning resource center should not be pa
Suggestions to be made is to provide these learning resource centers especially in the public schools an updated print materials and make these learning resource center bigger to cater a bigger population of student. It also needs replacements of some ICT resources such as computers so that it would be used by the learners and not just a mere display of resources.
The material that I already confident to use are the books because it widen my knowledge. Learning resources found inside the learning center are just the basic ones so probably there is nothing I need to learn more about. Thus, I just have to be more familiar with it.

As I went around the school and examined the board displays, I saw six several board displays. The board displays were found in every year level and so the target viewers can easily see them. The displays were about the Science Month Celebration since the observation was done on the month of September. The images I saw in the bulletin boards were images concerning science and technology like simple experiments and inventions. Several colors were put to make the bulletin board display like red, blue, and yellow and some neon colors. The pieces of information were arranged properly so that it could be easily understood by the pupils. The materials that were used in making the displays were cartolina, art papers and cut outs from magazines. There was no border used in making the display. I have not noticed any errors like misspelled words and grammar inconsistencies. However, some of the messages were not clear and cannot be easily understood because some of the materials posted in the bulletin board were not relevant to the theme.

Every good teacher knows that the walls are prime real estate -- the place where you reinforce rules and routines, encourage students to do their best, and celebrate everyone's achievements.
Bulletin boards take time to make, but they add immeasurably to student learning in your classroom when done carefully and creatively. Visual learners in the classroom will gain much additional knowledge from the bulletin board displays in the classroom. Connect a bulletin board to each unit lesson taught to add peripheral learning to the teacher instruction. Although many teachers attempt to create bulletin board displays that do not change for the entire year, creating unit displays that follow lesson plans enhance student learning. Visual learners take in everything around them in the classroom and often remember specifics from what they see later when taking tests. For example, a visual learner may be able to remember whether the location of written information on a single page – top, bottom, left side or right. Adding bulletin board displays that reinforce key facts and other pertinent information will be a great benefit to visual learners. These can include related information to specific lessons, important unit plans or basic information that is important to the particular year of school. An Evaluation Report of a Bulletin Board
Bulletin Board Evaluated by: Hasnia O. Disocor
Location: Ma. Christina, Fuentes, Iligan City
Brief Description of the Bulletin Board:
The bulletin board was about the Science Month Celebration and certain images with various colors regarding Science and Technology are found. They are arranged well and are made of cartolina and art papers. There are no misspelled words and grammar inconsistencies. Thus, the messages are clear and easily understood.

Strengths Weaknesses
Observations Letters and illustrations can be seen from a good distance
Lack of appealing colors with some of the images
Judgements/ Evaluations of educational content and other aspects:
The board display was satisfactory.
Inconsistency of the relevance towards the theme of some materials posted in the bulletin board
Recommendations or Suggestions for improvement:
The content of the bulletin board must be consistent and be related with the theme.

The board display reflects the likes or interest of its target audience especially the grade
two levels because viewers like them would appreciate organized and good bulletin board
display. Some of the pupils will find the bulletin board attractive and will have a good
impression on it. Yet, the bulletin board still needs improvement.
The language used was clear and simple for the target audience to understand especially
the grade 2 levels since the theme was written in a way which was kept short and simple.
Bulletin boards and classroom displays make a classroom more inviting. It gives the
learners some insights on the topic.
I suggest having a good bulletin board display that would attract the pupils and make
them more inviting to the lesson.
A list of skills needed by a teacher to come up with an effective board display should
include some of the following:
1.Creativity. Instructional content can be dry and boring in a classroom setting. Creative teachers
try to present concepts and content in an interesting way.
2. Visual skills. Teachers are somewhat like interior designers; they must be able to visualize the
presentation and impact they want to create, and then apply those to the display.
3. Organizational skills. This goes along with #2, but organization includes comparing and
contrasting, grouping and arranging content in a meaningful way.
4. Communication. Teachers know that words combined with visual content can often
communicate more than words alone. As well, the teacher must be a good communicator.
5. Minimalistic views. Good teachers know they must minimize content to the basic building
blocks they want to teach. Rather than a display aimed at students who understand the most, the
best, or the easiest, the display would be geared to include students who understand the least, the
poorest, and the hardest.
The skill that I have is to be a minimalist and what I need to improve more is my
creativity and communication skills.

The board display design reflects the likes/interests of its target audience because it’s information. The language used was cleared and simple for the target audience to understand because it has no corrections in grammar.

The posting of handouts utilizing course management systems has become, in many cases, a standard expectation by students. Perhaps this has been motivated by the intent to provide more information than can be written on a board or to make life “easier” for our students. I would suspect many of us have probably commented or heard from students how disappointing it was that “we did not get the handout for class” or asked “if the handout would be available after the class.”
While technology has certainly benefited all of us by allowing the easy dissemination and collection of information to and from others in a time when the amount of new information continues to increase exponentially, it is important to know whether providing handouts really facilitates students' learning. Perhaps, one key element necessary to facilitate learning, example, active learning, is diminished when students are provided all the information and not directly involved in the process of identifying, collecting, and organizing the information through the process of note taking. One could guess, given the existing use of presentation software and handouts, that we are not providing our students with an opportunity to further develop and enhance a critical skill that is necessary for being a successful, specifically their ability to take, revise, and review
The topic of the class that I observed was Linear equation. The good features of a hand out are have strong title, clear layout, underling connections and using of bulletin form instead of paragraph.
In preparing the hand-outs, it should be well summarized and organized for the pupils to understand it better.
I found difficulty in getting information about my topic in making these hand-outs. It is also hard to make graphic organizers.

On my experiences in surfing the net to find sites that provide support materials and interactive programs on my topic, I found out that it easy to get information about your topic because there is a website that can assist you in your field of specialization like in mathematics, the “the virtual Math Lab”. I feel comfortable in searching information about my topic that I was observed. I saw and understand what is really the point of my topic and I learned how easily to come up about my topic.
FS3- Technology in the Learning Environment
Narrative Report in Field Study 3 and 4
FS 3 is about “Technology in the Learning Environment”. In
FS 3 we were also exposed in a classroom setting through
classroom observation. In FS 3 we were tasked to observe the
different instructional materials (IMs) and technologies used by
the teacher in the classroom and how she use these IMs to
integrate learning. Unfortunately, the teacher does not often use
different IMs in her class. But she herself is a good replacement
for those IMs and her subject do not need much use of IMs so
there’s no problem with not using different IMs in her class.
FS3- Technology in the Learning Environment
FS 4 is which is about “Exploring the Curriculum”
emphasized the importance of the curriculum of the school. In FS
4 the importance of the stakeholders were brought in to the
topic. Also, the extra-curricular activities were mentioned and in
one of the episodes that I have answered, it was asked there how
much important is the involvement of all the stakeholders of the
school in the school’s programs and activities. Which means, in
every program and activity that the school is planning to make,
the stakeholders were also counseled because they are also
involve with it. For FS 4 we were again asked to observe the
appropriateness of the teacher’s method and strategy in
delivering the lesson, which means, it is really important that the
methods of teaching and the strategy of the teacher should be
appropriate with the kind of lesson that the teacher is
presenting.
PERSONAL REFLECTION OF FS PORTFOLIO
FS portfolio is designed to exhibits Fs students works, their analysis, and their personal reflections from their observation in field study activity. It focuses on how students acquire knowledge and understanding in the process of learning to teach, and how they are acquired. Thus, field study is a component of the new Pre-service Teacher Education Curriculum that aims to explore the students to actual field experiences so that they can relate the theories learned inside the classroom with those experiences. These off-classroom experiences would
emphasize the importance of understanding the complex work of the teacher in this era of globalization.
Therefore, in this field study experiences we, as a pre-service teacher arrived at our own analysis and reflection of what we have observed from the actual setting of teaching-learning process. Our personal reflection played in the growth and development of us pre-service teacher. Reflection allows us explore our experiences in order to arrive at new understanding or insights. Thus, The field study experience is geared towards exactly this, to give pre-service teachers the opportunity to learn through meaningful and systematic exposure in actual settings.
Moreover, by this field study subject we are given an opportunity to experience the real setting of teaching. In which we can therefore conclude that teaching is not an easy task. Teachers need to be patient and flexible in dealing with the individual differences of the learners to cope up and transform them into high competitive individual. With this experience, we were able to come up what a teacher can be, should be, and must be.
What was been your most meaningful experience in this episode? What makes it meaningful to you? How could such an experience help you become a better teacher?
Failures are just learning experiences, the only failure is the one from
which you have learned nothing.
Our most meaningful experience in this episode and mostly in this FS4 was
when we observe a class. Its significance helps us to understand the principles and
theories of curriculum development that lead us to become more eager to be in the
field.
The experience opened our eyes to the hardships a teacher undergoes just
to teach students effectively. We realized that to be effective teacher, we should
have an outstanding personal qualities such as “passion” that refers to our
dedication and love to our work and to our students, “humor” in such a way that
has relation to the topic so that none of the students lose interest in listening,
“values and attitude” that can eliminate discriminations thus we must be
unbiased and objective in judging our students work and performance, “sincerity
and honesty” which is exhibited in words and actions, “patience” refers to our
self-control and persistence, “enthusiasm and full of energy”, and lastly flexible
with our schedule whenever the situation demands it so.
