Welcome crew! My name is Christine Perkins your child’s new third grade teacher. This is my tenth year teaching! My son, Chance, is in 4th grade and my daughter, Cammie, is in 1st grade. My husband Jerry is a police officer at Jacksonville State University. I absolutely love teaching and am thrilled to start a new year!

* Breakfast will be served 7:20-7:40AM

•Students not eating breakfast will be sent to the gym before 7:40AM

• Please follow car rider rules at drop-off. No cell phone use allowed in the car rider drop off. Parents must remain in vehicles.

•Class begins promptly at 7:50AM.

•Third Grade continues with the StoryTown reading program your child has been using since kindergarten. A strong emphasis will be on comprehension, writing, and vocabulary.

Students will:

•have daily language practice

•have a weekly spelling and vocabulary list

•Please send a bottle of water (water only) for your child, the water fountain is time consuming for all of third grade, especially after PE.

•Please send snacks that are healthier choices

*Tennis Shoes must be worn during PE

*If your child can not participate, please send a written excuse for the PE teachers.

*Make sure enough money is in your child’s lunch account, no charging will be allowed.

*Use your monthly school calendar for the daily lunch and breakfast menu.

•Do not send carbonated drinks for lunch or snack.

•Parents are welcome to sit with their child during lunch. No outside food is allowed.

*Students need to:

•Know additon and subtraction facts

•Learn multiplication facts

•Practice word problems and problem solving

Your child will study Social Studies and Science in the following ways:

•DOG (daily oral geography)

•Weekly Readers

•Scott-Foresman Social Studies/Science textbooks

•Projects and Experiments

**Social Studies and Science units will rotate upon the completion of a unit

2:30 First Bus dismissal

2:35 Car Riders - Students will exit through the back doors by the cafeteria. Please remain in your vehicles to wait for your child. Safety patrol, teachers, and staff will assist your child. Cell-phone use is not allowed in the car-rider pick-up lane. Car rider signs and JSJ magnets can be purchased for $4 in the office.

2:45 Second load bus riders

2:50 Third load dismissed to the cafeteria

3:00 Extended Day (please register your child)

**Please fill out the transportion sheet today in your child’s classroom

Research shows that reading helps build fluency and vocabulary.

•Students will have a AR goal to reach each 9 weeks

•AR reading will be expected to be done at home as well as at school

•I will conference with students every week about each child’s reading goal

•AR points will not be graded, however there will be rewards as well as consequences to encourage students to read

There are many ways parents and teachers will share open communication:

•Daily communication book

•Weekly Newsletters

•Graded papers

•Conferences

•Email and Webpage www.ecboe.org/jsj

•Your child will receive a weekly grade in conduct. Each week’s grade will be averaged at the end of the 9 week grading period for a final conduct grade.

• Please talk with your child about their conduct on a daily basis. Please inform your teacher of bullying.

•Some rewards your child may earn are: participation in Fun Friday activities, special class privileges, treasure box, free time, outside play, etc…

Your child will have homework daily. Homework may include:

•Math skills and practice

•Spelling

•Reading

•Projects

Volunteer in our Classroom!

There are many ways you can assist your child’s teacher, even if you can’t be present.

•Send items for classroom materials, cleaning products, treasure box, Fun Friday activities

• Help pass information to other parents.

•Copying papers

•Organize and/or help with class parties and special events

School begins at 7:50 a.m.

•Please make sure your child is here on time

•If absent, a written excuse within 3 days is mandatory. Three written excuses per semester are acceptable, all other absences must have a doctor’s excuse.

•If a child is late, the parent must go to the office and sign the child in as “tardy”

*Before you leave your child’s class today, make sure the Transportation sheet, Volunteer list, and Email list is filled out.

*Please take home the JSJ Handbook, fill out the papers inside and return it to school on Monday. Take the time to look over the handbook. It has helpful information about John Jones, as well as school and county policies.
