DESCRIPTION

This slideshow was created for discussion after viewing Dan Pink's TED talk on motivation. I used iclickers for the students' responses after they worked on a handout of benefits and no benefits for the employees and customers.

Motivation and Pay

Ramsey is the CEO of a technology company.

His sales people are paid on commission.

Robert loves sales and works on commission because he can make good money. He recently lost money on some investments for retirement.

Bart feels uncomfortable when his customers buy more than they need, but he doesn’t say anything because he will lose money. He has two children in college.

Valerie has a large student loan to pay. She makes many sales, but the stress of working on commission keeps her up late at night worried about the next sale.

Marilyn likes helping her customers but finds it hard to build trust with some customers after they find out she is working on commission. She is engaged to be married soon.

Harold manages the sales people and works overtime to make sure the commissions are fair.

Customers are voicing doubts about whether the sales people are helping them find the best product or the most expensive product.

Ramsey decides to stop paying commissions and give all the salespeople a good salary.

Who will vote for the change and who will vote against the change?
