Verb + Infinitive

in Spanish, many useful expressions are

formed by combining two verbs.

the first verb is conjugated, while thesecond verb remains in the infinitive form.

Verb + Infinitive

•Yo voy a viajar a España. (ir)I am going to travel to Spain.

•Tú acabas de comer. (acabar)You have just eaten.

•Juan puede nadar cada día. (poder)Juan can swim every day.

•María vuelve a leer el libro. (volver)María reads the book again.

Acabar de + Infinitive

One such expression combines the verb

acabar (conjugated) with an infinitive.

The preposition "de" is always used.

(in the very recent past)

•Nosotros acabamos de leer el libro.We just read the book.

•Vosotros acabáis de escribir unas cartas.You-all have just written some letters.

•Ellos acaban de nadar en el mar.They have just swum in the ocean.

Acabar de + Infinitive

•Acabo de llevar a mi hermana a su casa.I just took my sister to her house.

•Acabas de invitar a muchas muchachas.You have just invited many girls.

•Cristina acaba de conversar con mi mamá.Christina has just spoken with my mom.

Volver a + Infinitive

Another expression combines the verbvolver (conjugated) with an infinitive.

The preposition “a" is always used.

•Vuelvo a leer el libro.I read the book again.

•Cristina ha vuelto a conversar con mi mamá.Christina has spoken with my mom again.

•Ayer, volvió a nievar. Yesterday, it snowed again.

•Mañana, volverá a llover Tomorrow it will rain again.

“HACER" can be used to indicate:

1 – “how long” you have been doing something.

2 - The concept of "ago."

Another way to use the verb "hacer" to express

present + desde hace + time

You cannot use time adverbs such as"yesterday" or "this morning".
