Monochromatic ColorsObjective: You will learn how to mix monochromatic colors in order to make pastel and neutral color schemes.DRILL:1. What is a monochromatic color?2. Take out your homework.3. Use colored pencils to show an

example of a monochromatic color scheme.

4. You need a long rectangle for today’s lesson.

5. Get a paint tray for every table. Make sure it has white and a little black. Get a brush and water.

Homework due tomorrow:

1. Find an example of analogous colors:• Where? In a magazine- whole picture

or cut up each color and put them together.

Or on the internet, draw another example and color it!

2. Find the definition of monochromatic colors. Be ready to define it and do an example for your drill tomorrow.• Hint: Where can you find this power

point with the answer on it?• www.gaugerfunofart.pbworks.com

The monochromatic color scheme is developed using only shades and tints of only one color.

Mono=one, chrome=color = one color

Tints and Shades

• Tints- adding white to a color

• Shades- adding black to a color

Turn to yesterday’s page:• Find the long rectangle.• Divide it into 5-7 sections.

• You will make a minimum of 5 tints and shades of a one color.

• Try it on your own first.• Then Miss Gauger will demonstrate.

• Neutral usually means without color. Neutral colors such as beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, and white appear to be without color, and yet in many applications these hues often have undertones of color.

Pastels

• Tints of a color• White is blended in.• Used in nurseries

for babies and at wedding.

• Soft, subtle colors.

Today’s goal:

1. Follow demo for monochromatic colors.2. Draw designs in pastel, neutral, and your own

color scheme.3. Fill them in with the correct colors.
