Maximizing natural daylight, ventilation, and views in order to create healthy living conditions in NYC was the focus for this apartment design. Major design decisions that helped achieve this include slicing two "gaps" in the building as well as incorporating an innovative shading device on the facade. Located on an active Soho corner, the building takes on an "L" shape in order to use the corner to its potential and continue the fabric of the dense urban environment.

Located in Columbus, Indiana, this museum is dedicated to display large industrial objects. These objects are featured in substantial spacial volumes that allow for multiple angles of viewing. Focusing on circulation, a direct path was designed in which the occupants take the elevator to the top floor and are led through a concise path through the exhibits, back down to the lobby. The facade has a direct correlation to what is happening on the inside as the opaque material is used in the exhibits, the translucent material used for areas of circulation and the transparent material revealing important views. These material changes help direct the occupants and define each space which in turn creates a geometric composition on the facade.

Floor Plan Canopy SketchesAriel View

Tasked with designing a retail space in small town Iowa, Recreation Station seeks to develop one of the regions greatest assets, the Wabash Trace, and enhance the recreational opportunity in the region. To further activate this trail, which was converted from a former rail line, this design proposes an outdoor recreational store and restaurant located on the path. Inspired by a train station, a structural element bridges the two programs creating a destination point and visible trail entrance. In order to restore the trail to the original railroad line, a new path is proposed. This also keeps the bikers off the busy highway and continues the scenic view along the trees.

With the goal of stopping eminent domain, the big move for this project was to reroute the overpass running through the site and design a space for the community. By placing the building program in two parallel bars between the highways, we were able to create a protected courtyard space for users to relax, host events, and interact with the remnants of the overpass. The underside of the new highway structure was then treated as a canopy for the fueling station. One highlight of this project is the viewing platform which we created by raising a portion of the building up to the level of the highway. By using a picture window at the end of the "bar" occupants get a straight shot view of Downtown Dallas. The experience is enhanced with vehicles racing past the building just a few feet away.
