ABOUT MOHAN FOUNDATION
Introduction
MOHAN is an acronym for Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network and was established in 1997.
It is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization started to promote organ donation. It is
registered as a Trust vide Register No. 285/98 dated 4th August 1997 in Tamil Nadu. It has
Income Tax exemption under Section 80G and 35AC. We are approved recipients under the
Foreign Contributions Regulatory Act, 1976.
History:
January 12, 1997- the day MOHAN Foundation started its journey in Chennai to give
patients with organ failure a new lease of life. Organ donation and transplantation has made
it possible for people with organ failure to look forward to a brighter tomorrow filled with hope
and promise. It is the brainchild of a group of highly motivated, concerned and non-
commercial group of practicing medical professionals and non-medical professionals to
promote the cause of “Organ Donation”. The Foundation works to increase the reach of the
Transplantation of Human Organs Act, which was passed by the Government of India in
1994 to broaden the concept of organ donation and stop commercial dealings in organs,
especially kidneys.
The Foundation has offices in Chennai (H.Q), Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Jaipur and
information centres at Chandigarh, Nagpur and USA. MOHAN Foundation has embarked
upon yet another major milestone with the creation of MOHAN USA in 2011.
Vision:
To ensure that no Indian dies for want of an organ
Mission:
To ensure that every Indian that is suffering from end-stage organ failure be provided
with the gift of a “New lease of Life”, through a lifesaving organ transplant.
Objectives:
To promote public education programmes so that a cross section of our population is
aware about the need to donate one’s organs
To create a network of hospitals that can be a source of organ donations
To liaise with the Government of India and State Government to pass favourable
legislations that will augment organ donations
To network with organ donation agencies so that no organ is ever wasted
To train health care professionals in transplant coordination, so that they may efficiently
and effectively counsel the families of “brain dead” victims to donate their loved ones’
organs
To raise resources to support organ donation related activities

On 2nd May, 2015 a musical evening titled
‘Samarthan’ was organized in New Delhi.
The evening was graced with many
distinguished personalities and supporters
of the cause and made memorable by the
beautiful music played by the Zoya Band.
Zoya 'Born out of light' in Persian and 'Gift
of God' in Arabic - is the confluence of
hearts, souls, minds and talents of four
fantastic musicians.
The event started with a presentation about
the status of organ donation in our country
and the importance of creating awareness
about the same. All the donor families who
in the darkest hour of their lives had found
the strength to give a new lease of life to
many people were thanked.
There was also a sign up session where
people came forward and pledged their
organs. Close to 300 people attended the
event to demonstrate their support and

3. Transplant Coordinators’ Training Programme
Transplant coordinators play a pivotal role in the success of the deceased donation and transplantation programme. To address the training needs of this cadre of health care professionals, MOHAN Foundation started a structured “Transplant Coordinators’ Training Programme” in the year 2009. Depending on the requirement of the candidates it runs courses of various durations from one week to one year.
This training programme has received part-funding from the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai. A total of 1076 candidates have been trained between December 2009 and March 2016.
