Intelligent Advisory System for Farmers(IASF) CDAC + DOA (Meghalaya)= IASF (29th Nov . 2012)

Is an advisory system for answering queries related to farming activities carried out in Northeastern states of India.

Covers five major farming activities (Insect Management, Disease Management, Weed Management, Rice Variety Selection and Fertilizer Management) 

1.  Provide  improved  services  to  the  farming  community  through the use of  ICT.

2.  Advice  and  help  farmers  to  solve  problems  related  to  their farming  activities.  Otherwise,  they  need  to  contact  agricultural experts and private extension workers.

3.  Providing  vital  and generic  information  to  farmers  so  that  they get periodic alerts on important/useful  tips, ideas, knowhow etc.

4.  Updates  farmers  on  latest  technology  in  Agriculture  sector  for improved productivity and quality farming.

The main objectives of IASF are:

5. Developing an advisory system which can be extended with any other types of crops in any State of India.

6. Improving agricultural extension service by using mobile services so that farmers can send queries about their farming problems from their mobile device.

7. To develop  educational materials to be used by students for their practical experience with real case scenario.

Invalidate a solution : Experts can also invalidate a query solution suggested by IASF's intelligent referencing engine using the following SMS format:

Traditional agricultural extension agents are increasingly being outfitted with mobile phones through programs to increase their effectiveness by networking them to knowledge banks.

Extension can reach more clients through mobile-based learning platforms—textual or richer platforms, such as video—that provide tips to farmers to improve agricultural skills and knowledge.

CABI provides the scientific expertise for Direct2Farm,

:A mobile infomediary service which aims to make quality, customized information accessible to farmers.

Short SMS or voice messages deliver the material, which farmers can then apply to their business in order to increase profitability.

1. The company provides affordable mobile handsets bundled with Airtel mobile connections.

2. Farmers will get access to a unique VAS (Value Added Services)platform that will broadcast five free voice messages on mandi (market) prices, farming techniques, weather forecasts, dairy farming, animal husbandry, rural health initiatives, and fertilizer availability, etc, on a daily basis.

Launched-on January 21, 2004 (across the country)

By -The Department of Agriculture & Cooperation (DAC), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India

Timing: 6 A.M. to 10 P.M. (except on Sundays and gazetted holidays)

Beyond these hours the calls are attended in the IVRS mode.

 

The purpose of these call centers is to respond to issues raised by farmers, instantly, in the local language.

The main objective of the scheme has been to make agriculture knowledge available at free of cost to the farmers as and when desired.

CONCLUSION:

There are a number of challenges to consider when planning the implementation of mobile technology. Perhaps the most important of these to consider is the context of the technology and the requirements of the end user. There is not one app or one device that will suit all situations in all countries. Some regions can easily embrace tablets with advanced apps, whereas other countries may find information via SMS a better solution.

The technology doesn’t have to be complicated.
