MINUTES OF THE 34th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF ISAMPE

17th October 2020

The 34th Annual General Meeting of ISAMPE was held virtually (Through online)

on 17th October 2020 (Saturday) from 16.00 to 18.00 hrs. Due to the current

pandemic situation (Covid -19) and as per the prevailing Government of India

SOP (guide lines on restriction on mass gathering), AGM for the business

session was held virtually (Through online). The detail program schedule is

enclosed in Annexure-1.

Members Present:

List of members who attended the AGM is given in Annexure-2.

Report on AGM Function:

Business session of the AGM was held in the evening of 17th October 2020 and

the agenda for the meeting as given in the programme (Annexure-1) was

followed.

Following is the Record of Discussions during the Business Session of the

Annual General Body Meeting.

Record of discussions:

1. Welcome& Address by the President

Dr. D Saji, President-ISAMPE welcomed all the members for the Business

Session.

2. Confirmation of Minutes of 33rd AGM

The highlights of the 33rd AGM was discussed and Minutes for the same was

accepted by the General Body. The resolution to accept the same was

Proposed by Dr. Rajagopal and seconded by Mr. Kandala Ravi Sekhar. The

33rd AGM report was accepted unanimously.

3. Secretary’s Report

Mr. Srinivas. M Secretary-ISAMPE presented the Secretary’s Report

(Enclosed in Annexure-4). The resolution to accept the report was proposed

by Mr. T.M Naidu and seconded by Mr. P. Jayasimha & Shri V. Sadagopan.

Secretary’s report was accepted unanimously.

4. Statement of Accounts &Treasurer’s Report

Dr. Hema Singh, Treasurer-ISAMPE, presented the Treasurer’s Report

(Enclosed in Annexure-5).

Discussions / Deliberation on the Treasurers Report is as follows:

Dr Ramesh Sundaram enquired about the financial condition of the

ISAMPE and as well as in the NECTAR fund. Treasurer, informed

members that ISAMPE has around Rs 80 Lakhs in its account and out

of which Rs. 50 Lakhs belongs to the NECTAR Corpus fund. Interest

earned from the FD is around Rs.12 Lakhs can be used for the next

NECTAR workshop.

Mr. Ananda Murthy wanted to know why close to Rs. 6 lakhs is lying in

the savings account, which can be converted to the fixed deposit.

President explained that this fund was raised during the NECTAR

workshop held just before the financial year, which will be converted to

the FD by end of November 2020.

President also expressed as per the Society rules the fund cannot be

invested in to the mutual funds or any other investments where in the

market risks involved. The funds to be invested in to the Fixed deposits

only as per the society rules and too in nationalized banks only.

Shri V Sadagopan raised the query on the Corporate membership of

M/s Kemrock Industries, Vadodara and also expressed that as

currently M/s Kemrock Industries is no more exists and still how

ISAMPE can continue the corporate membership at ISAMPE.

President appraised that M/s Kemrock Industries was taken the

corporate membership for 30 years by paying R.s 1.5 Lakhs, and there

is no communication received from them stating that the Industry is no

more exists. Dr Ramesh Sundaram requested President and Secretary

to check / discuss the matter with the Auditor for further necessary

action on the same. However the amount paid by M/s Kemrock

Industries, will be shown as receipts in the ISAMPE account.

After the deliberation on the treasurer's report, to accept the report from the

Auditor was proposed by Shri. V Sadagopan and seconded by Dr Shylaja

Srihari Treasurer’s report was accepted unanimously.

5. Report of the Chapters

(i) Bangalore Chapter: Mr. T.C Subba Reddy, Chairman, Bangalore

Chapter presented the annual report and briefed the General Body about

the latest and forthcoming activities of the Chapter.

(ii) Pune Chapter: Dr. Amit Gupta, Secretary, Pune Chapter presented the

annual report of the Chapter and briefed the General Body about the

latest activities of the Chapter.

(iii) Thiruvananthapuram Chapter: Shri John Paul, VSSC, Secretary,

Thiruvananthapuram Chapter presented the annual report of the Chapter

and briefed the General Body about the latest activities of the Chapter.

Highlight of their activity for the year was conduct of INCCOM-16.

It is appraised to Thiruvananthapuram Chapter to conduct the AGM of

the chapter and submit the report to the main body at the earliest. Due to

spread of Covid-19, Secretary informed that ISAMPE-Trivandrum

chapter AGM will be conducted as online latest by 31-10-2020.

(iv) Hyderabad Chapter: Dr. K Srinivas, Secretary Hyderabad chapter was

presented the plans to revival of the Hyderabad chapter, also expressed

that the Hyderabad chapter Executive council need to be reelected and

the same was planned by End of Nov 2020. (v) Coimbatore Chapter: On Behalf of Prof. Jayanarayanan, Dr. Duraisamy

Kumaresan was presented the Annual report of the Coimbatore chapter

Dr. Duraisamy Kumaresan presented the annual report of the chapter

and briefed the general body about the latest and the planned activities.

It is appraised to Coimbatore Chapter to conduct the AGM of the chapter

and submit the report to the main body at the earliest. (vi) Kanpur Chapter: There was no representation from the Chapter in the

meeting.

(vii) Dhanbad Chapter: There was no representation from the Chapter in the

meeting.

It is also proposed during the AGM that, the Kanpur and Dhanbad

chapter are not active since from last three years, hence it is proposed, all the

members from the both chapter are required to be attached to the Bangalore

chapter in association with the ISAMPE main body. It is also appraised that

Mr. T.M Naidu will interact with the both chapter representatives for revival of

the chapter for which members are agreed. The time frame was fixed by

March 2021, if not both the chapter will be closed and the members will be

attached to the Bangalore chapter. President appraised to the members that

the entire three chapter (Hyderabad, Dhanbad & Kanpur) are not submitting

the audit reports.

6. Constitution of the Executive Council for the Year 2020-21:

Election was due this year to fill up the vacancies for posts of Treasurer, Joint Secretary -2 and Director – 2 in the Executive Council of the Society

for the official years 2020-21. According to the Election Procedure, vide Sec

5.3 of the Rules and Regulations, the Executive Board had made nominations

for the vacant posts (Refer Election Notice Ref: ISAMPE/Society/AGM-02/20,

dated 17.08.2020). President, ISAMPE informed to the members that other

than those nominated by the EB, no other nominations for the posts have

been received. Hence, he declared the following persons elected

unanimously.

7. Plan of Activities for 2020-21

President - ISAMPE addressed the General Body and discussed about the

plan of action for the year 2020-21, mainly with respect to the following:

Prof AK Rao Memorial Lecture By Prof AK Guptha, Rtd Professor from IIT

Delhi.

Shri Vijay Zaveri Memorial Lecture By Mr Khandwe, Bohr Chemicals &

Plastics Pvt Ltd Mumbai

Technical lectures by Eminent speakers from academia, industry & R and

D labs (minimum 3 lectures)

Above events are planned through virtual (Online) mode

NECTAR Workshop is also planned in this FY.

A Committee formed under Chairmanship of Dr Ramesh

Sundaram and other members are Dr PS Nair, Dr S Rajagopal & Mr TC

Subbareddy. Committee will identify topic for the workshop by End of Dec.

Accordingly the workshop will be planned during the year 2020-21.

Release a Book on History of ISAMPE

This is a dream project of many veterans and past active EB

members of ISAMPE. Mrs Rakzha Zaveri mooted this and suggested to

bring out this history in this year. A committee under Chairmanship of Dr

RV Krishnan formed to develop this. Other members of the committee

are Dr S Sankaran, Dr PS Nair, Dr Shylaja Srihari, Dr Hema Singh & Mrs

Raksha Zaveri. It is also proposed to hire Dr Shalini Joshi , a Freelance

Development Professional and Content writer, who has done similar job

for various NGOs, Industries, Academic Institutions and take her

consultancy in this job execution.

Membership Photo ID Cards to ISAMPE Life members: The process for

the issue of Photo ID Cards to ISAMPE Life members is initiated and as of

now already close to 500 ID cards are printed and handed over to the

respective individuals. This process will be continued till the completion for

all the members. It is also initiated for a fresh members, the ID card will be

issued along with the Life membership certificate.

ISAMPE understands the importance of imparting education and

exposures to the engineering student community. In this regard, ISAMPE

has instituted a Student Chapter in Bangalore, which is spread across

several engineering colleges in the city. The students are given necessary

exposure to composite technologies by through workshops, lectures and

visits to relevant facilities. Similar student chapter is also being planned to

be set up in Pune.

Email Update: Members expressed that the they are not receiving the

Email communication from the ISAMPE. AGM authorized the executive

board to do the needful.

ISAMPE would like to improve the industrial participation in the ISAMPE

activities. Increase the corporate membership, through which the

industries can be directly involved in the corporate activities.

Enhance the ISAMPE activities through the website.

Involvement of the student members in the ISAMPE activities though

organizing the workshops and visits to the industries.

It is also planned arrange online lectures for the benefit of students

through ISAMPE-BC and ISAMPE Student Chapter at BMS College of

Engineering.

Bangalore chapter is planning a student completion on design of a foldable

aircraft ladder. As number of proposals received this year is limited we are

extending it for some more time. Mr T C Subbareddy, Chairman ISAMPE –

BC is coordinating this event.

8. Any other matter (with the permission of the Chair)

a. Appointment of Auditor for the Year 2019-20

As proposed by Dr. Hema Singh and Mr. Srinivas, the General

Body approved the appointment of M/s Suri & Co. as the Auditor for

ISAMPE accounts for the Year 2020-21 at the marginal increment

in audit fees, which has been paid presently.

b. Mr. N.C Sharma thanked to the society, and appraised that there is

a lot of scope for opening another chapter at Ahmedabad as a lot of

industries are coming up in that areas. Members are welcomed his

proposal and requested him to explore the possibilities to establish

the chapter at Ahmedabad. It is also requested Mr. N C Sharma to

get the corporate membership for the ISAMPE, as he is having

more interaction with the Industries.

c. Mr. Vinu Viswanath, Ex Secretary ISAMPE(TVM) chapter

appraised that the virtual meeting are very fruitful and requested to

continue for more additional technical lecture for the benefit of the

ISAMPE members.

d. Mr. T M Naidu, felt that in addition to virtual meetings, need for

formal meeting of members at least once in a year

e. Dr. Upadhya, requested President ISAMPE regarding the

interaction with the other likeminded societies like FRP Institute,

RV-TIFAC etc., President appraised to the members that ISAMPE

is closely associated with these institutions / Societies for the

participating various events organizing by them. ISAMPE President

is an ex-Officio member of governing council of RV-TIFAC

Composite Design Center and attending their meetings regularly.

Further ISAMPE planned to have INCCOM-17 during the next

ICERP of FRP Institute Chennai.

f. Mr. Madhav Murthy, Professor from BMS College requested to

ISAMPE members to share their expertise with students and

suggest industry projects for them.

g. Shri. V Sadagopan appreciated the virtual AGM, and congratulated

the EC for their successful completion of the society renewal

process and conducting the AGM through online without any

technical snags.

h. Mr Arunachalam suggested that all the technical lectures organized

by ISAMPE through online /webinar such information need to be

passed on to all the ISAMPE members. President welcomed the

proposal and confirmed that the information will be shared to all the

members.

i. Mr. Ananda Murthy, suggested that the ISAMPE meeting like EB &

EC meeting can be organized through online as well as off line, so

that the participation will increase. President welcomed the proposal

and informed the modalities will be work out accordingly and will be

communicated to the members.

j. President appreciated efforts taken by Mr Srinivas and Mr MN

Patnaik to conduct this virtual AGM without any technical hitches.

Glad to note that more than 200 members registered for the online

AGM and attended it in full swing from different parts of the world.

Most of the past Presidents attended the AGM and suggestions

given by Dr PS Nair, Dr S Ramachandra, Dr Ramesh Sundaram ,Dr

S Sankaran and Mr V Sadagopan during various stages of

organising this online AGM is laudable. The Trial online AGM

conducted with EB members on 16-10-20 made today's actual

AGM memorable.

k. President also would like to appreciate Mr Sandeep Panigrahy,

outgoing Jt Secretary and Dr Hema Singh, outgoing Treasurer for

their continuous support to ISAMPE for the past 4 years. Services

given by Mr Sandeep Panigrahy in organising AGM catering is

enormous and that by Dr Hema Singh in keeping finances of

ISAMPE safe and maintaining records of all financial transactions

intact is laudable. He would like to place on record their immense

contributions to ISAMPE and honour them suitably in the next AGM.

9. Vote of Thanks

Mr. Sandeep Panigrahy, Jt. Secretary - ISAMPE proposed a formal vote of

thanks and the Business Session of the AGM concluded with thanks to the

Chair. Special thanks to Mr. Prashant, who organized the AGM virtually.

Report on the Thirty Fourth AGM Function

The 34th AGM of Indian Society for Advancement of Materials and Process

Engineering (ISAMPE) was held on 17th Oct 2020 virtually (Through online). The

Business Session started in the afternoon and deliberated on the matters

pertaining to Society’s functioning. The AGM programme (Annexure-I) consisted

of the following sessions:

Welcome Address by Dr. S. Saji, President, ISAMPE

Secretary presented the highlights of the 33rd AGM minutes to the

members of ISAMPE and the same was rectified by the members.

Secretary presented the Secretary report for the year 2019-20 to the

members of ISAMPE and the same was rectified during the AGM. .

members of ISAMPE and the same was rectified during the AGM.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

Dear ISAMPE Members,

It gives me great pleasure to present to you the annual report of the Indian

Society for Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (ISAMPE) for the

year 2019-2020. Even though, due to the current pandemic situation (Covid -19)

and as per the prevailing Government of India SOP (guide lines on restriction on

mass gathering), this year ISAMPE could do its best efforts to conduct few

technical sessions virtually (through online) However, once the situation comes

to normal and the ease of government regulation for the mass gathering we

would like to have the few more technical sessions including Shri Vijay Zaveri

Memorial lecture, Prof AK Rao Memorial lecture etc as in the past occasions.

Election of Executive Board (EB)

In pursuance of the Election Procedure (vide-Sec. 5.3 of the Rules and

Regulations) elections were required to be held this year to the offices of Vice

president, Secretary, Joint Secretary-2 and Director - 2 in the Executive Council

of the Society for the official years 2019-2021. As no other nominations were

received, the following ISAMPE EB nominees were elected unopposed and this

was approved in last the AGM, held on 27th September 2019.

ISAMPE Main Body Activities (2019-20): Following is a summary of activities completed / initiated / planned by ISAMPE in

the last one year.

Activities Completed

o 33nd AGM of ISAMPE was held on 27th Sep 2019 at HAL Convention

Center, Marathahalli, Bangalore. The AGM was well attended by ISAMPE

members. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function was Shri. Arup Chatterjee, Director (Engineering and R&D), Hindustan Aeronautics

Limited, Bangalore.

o Vijay Zaveri Memorial Lecture: The 28th Vijay Zaveri Memorial Lecture

was delivered by Shri C.R.Sathya, Ex TAML, Bangalore on the topic

“FUTURE MAN”

o 14th Prof. AK Rao Memorial Lecture: The 14th Prof. AK Rao Memorial

Lecture was delivered by Prof. N. Balakrishnan, IISc, Bangalore on the

Topic: “Four Decades of Computational Electromagnetics Research and Advances in High Performance Computing".

o We had on more technical session by Dr. Shankar Venugopal, Vice

president, M/s Mahindra & Mahindra, Chennai was delivered a technical

session on the topic "DESI Leaders – Leading Exponential Innovation"

o ISAMPE understands the importance of imparting education and

exposures to the engineering student community. In this context, ISAMPE

organized one technical session exclusively for the benefit of students on

“Testing and Characterization of Composite Materials for Aircraft Structural Application”. The session was delivered by Shri A Gnanasekar, HOD, Materials and process Engineering, ARDC, HAL

through online session.

o ISAMPE also instituted a student contest on “Design of Foldable Ladder for Military Aircraft” for which there is a good response from the student

communities through participating for this contest.

o Life Membership: ISAMPE has crossed 2002 in terms of life membership

count. The drive will continue further

o ISAMPE Website Update: Freshly designed ISAMPE website with various

new value added features is being launched, Website ID:

www.isampe.org. It also provides a platform for Industries to advertise

their products and capabilities and provide a forum for interaction between

ISAMPE members, industries and institutions. Freshly designed ISAMPE

website with various new value added features has been launched.

o E-mail ID Updating: Serious efforts have been initiated for E-mail ID

updating of members and many communication gaps have been already

bridged. The drive will continue further till almost all members are brought

within the e-mail communication loop. However, in website there is a

provision to update the member email ID through the enquiry link. All the

members are requested to use the same for updating their Email ID’s.

Activities in Progress

o Issue of Photo ID Cards to ISAMPE Life members: The process for the

issue of Photo ID Cards to ISAMPE Life members is initiated and as of

now already close to 500 ID cards are printed and handed over to the

respective individuals. This process will be continued till the completion for

all the members. It is also initiated for a fresh members, the ID card will be

issued along with the Life member ship certificate. And also requested all

the members who have not given their ID card applications are requested

to give the same to the Society, enable the society to take care of their ID

cards also.

o ISAMPE understands the importance of imparting education and

exposures to the engineering student community. In this regard, ISAMPE

has instituted a Student Chapter in Bangalore, which is spread across

several engineering colleges in the city. The students are given necessary

exposure to composite technologies by through workshops, lectures and

visits to relevant facilities. Similar student chapter is also being planned to

be set up in Pune.

Future Activities

o ISAMPE would like to improve the industrial participation in the ISAMPE

activities. Increase the corporate membership, through which the

industries can be directly involved in the corporate activities.

o Enhance the ISAMPE activities through the website.

o Involvement of the student members in the ISAMPE activities though

organizing the workshops and visits to the industries.

Highlights of Various ISAMPE Chapter Activities (2019-20) ISAMPE Bangalore Chapter:

The main activities of the Chapter are listed below.

The AGM of the chapter was held on 10th Oct 2020 (Virtually), which

was well attended.

The AGM was preceded by 7th Dr. BR Somashekar Memorial Lecture

on “Advanced Composites for Emerging Aerospace programs” by Dr. I Srikanth, Sc-F, HTCC, ASL, DRDO, Hyderabad.

Bangalore chapter organized one technical session exclusively for the

benefit of students on “Testing and Characterization of Composite Materials for Aircraft Structural Application”. The session was

delivered by Shri A Gnanasekar, HOD, Materials and process

Engineering, ARDC, HAL through online session.

Bangalore chapter organized one seminar on “Latest developments in

Ultrasonic testing of critical aerospace metallic & composite parts” by

Dr. Christopher John Leslie from M/s Olympus Singapore on 14th

Feb 2020 at KTMD Seminar Hall, CSIR, NAL, Bangalore and was well

attended by members from CSIR-NAL and other organizations.

Bangalore chapter organized webinar and an interactive session on

“SOLVAY COMPOSITE TOOLING MATERIALS & SERVICES” on 11th

Sep 2020, by Mr. PATRICK STIMPSON (Project Manager, Tooling,

Solvay Composite Materials)

The AGM of the chapter was held on 25th Sep 2020, which was well

attended.

One Technical lecture was organized. Talk was delivered by Dr. Anoop Anand from R&DE(E) on “Manufacturing of Axi-symmetric composite products using RFI Process”. The talk was focused on

different aspects of RFI manufacturing processes and its advantages

in realization of axi-symmetric composite structures as compared to

other manufacturing processes.

It is also decided by the chapter to increase the involvement of

composites industries and academia of Pune region with ISAMPE by

conducting workshops/ seminars with active industrial participation.

It has been decided to organize workshops on Certification of

composite structures and SHM in the year 2020-21.

Apart from this, it is planned to add more members in ISAMPE for

which membership drive is being undertaken for both individuals and

organizations to increase interaction between people of composites

fraternity in the region.

ISAMPE Coimbatore Chapter:

The activities undertaken by the Chapter in the last year are listed below.

The Chapter gave financial support to the second edition of SCICON,

International Conference on Advanced Materials, was held at Amrita

Vishwa Vidyapeetham, from December 15-17, 2019.

The three-day conference saw eminent researchers from countries like

Canada, USA, Thailand, France, Italy, UAE, Bangladesh, South Korea,

Hungary, Singapore, and several parts of India congregate to share

their expertise in areas such as biomaterials, electronic and magnetic

materials, as well as high energy materials.

With 12 plenary lectures and 34 invited talks that included parallel

sessions on Basic Sciences, Materials for Energy Applications,

Computational Materials, Electronic and Magnetic Materials,

Biomaterials and Nanomaterials, the conference was a hub for an

intensely diverse approach to science and technology. The

publications co authored by ISAMPE members of Coimbatore Chapter

were presented in the conference.

ISAMPE Coimbatore Chapter supported the 10th National-level

Techfest, Anokha 2020, from February 13-15, 2020 organized by the

School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore

campus. The Chapter members were judges for many events

conducted as part of the Techfest.

The Chapter gave financial support to the student contests organized

by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry – Coimbatore Chapter

conducted during November 2019.

The National Conference (INNCOM-16) with theme “Advanced

Composites – Opportunities & challenges from Earth to Space” was

conducted on 20-21 Sep 2019. The INNCOM -16 was well attended.

One more Workshop for technicians with theme “Composites

Technology –Best Practices, Procedures and Precautions for Total

Quality” was conducted ob 22 Sep 2019.

Development -2019 awarded to a team lead by Dr Makarant

ISAMPE award for smart materials and system technology

development (General)-2019 awarded to team from CSIR-NAL

Bangalore comprising of Dr. S Raja, Dr. ST Aruna, Mr. G

Jerald Maria Antony & Dr. Chetan S Jarali for their

contribution to “Development of an improved thermoset Shape Memory Polymer (SMP) and the preparation thereof ".

Shri. Vijay Zaveri Award for Excellence in Technical Support -

2019 awarded to Mr K Ramesha of CSMST, CSIR-NAL,

Bangalore for his contribution in the “Development of 10kW

&7.5 kW Wind Turbine Blades".

ISAMPE Student Award for Smart Materials and Systems

Technology Development – 2019, awarded to Ms. M G Pooja of

School of Electronics & Communication, Reva University for her

contribution in the work titled -"CNN based methodology for inclusion detection in prepreg based manufacturing process of aerospace composite structures".

ISAMPE EB Meetings (2019-20)

The ISAMPE EB arranged 4 meetings and 4 EC meetings during the year

to chalk out many programs. We used to meet about once a quarter and

the EB Meetings were also attended by members from various chapters to

discuss their issues.

With this, I wish you all a professionally satisfying association with

the society during the coming year as well. I would also like to thank

members of ISAMPE EB, especially Dr. S Saji, President-ISAMPE, for

supporting me to conduct ISAMPE activities in befitting manner for the

past one year. I also thank all of you for the cooperation and constructive

suggestions extended to the new EB for improving ISAMPE in all possible

ways. I once again thank all ISAMPE members for giving me the

opportunity. It was a great pleasure and honor to serve you all.
