2,700 men & boys killed in explosions alone• Royal Commission set up in 1886• Rescue organisation compulsory after the
formation of the Coal Mines Act 1911• First Mansfield Station 1909 built at a cost of
£1,750 on land donated by His Grace The Duke of Portland
