FIRST HALF SWAN SONG: The Dodgers wrap up the first half of
the 2015 championship season this afternoon with the rubber match of
a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. Los Angeles is
currently 5-4 on its’ first 10-game homestand of the season and will
enter the second half in first place for the second consecutive season
and third time in the past four years (2012, 2014-15). Following the
four-day All-Star break, the Dodgers open the second half on the road
with a 10-game trip to Washington (3 G), Atlanta (3 G) and New
York-NL (4 G).
The Dodgers are looking to win their second consecutive
series overall and improve to 11-3-2 in home series this
season. In all series, the Dodgers are 15-8-5 in 2015 and the
club has a record of 16-12 in the final game of a series.
Los Angeles had its’ three-game winning streak snapped last
night, but still has the most home victories in baseball (32)
thus far and its’ .653 home winning percentage ranks fourth
in the big leagues, trailing the Cardinals (.738), Mets (.689)
and Pirates (.660).
Since 2010, the Brewers’ .706 winning percentage (12-5) is
the highest mark by any visiting team at Dodger Stadium
(min. 10 games). Whoever wins today’s game will take the
season series. The Dodgers have won the season series with
Milwaukee just once since 2011 (2013).
The Dodgers are tied with the Giants for the most shutouts in
baseball with 13. The club record for shutouts before the All-
Star break is 14, set in 1963 and matched in 1970, 1974 and
1980.
STAY TIDY MY FRIENDS: Today, the first 15,000 ticketed kids 14
and under in attendance will receive a Kids’ Hamper presented by
Time Warner Cable.
In addition, the Dodgers will celebrate Cuban Heritage Day
at Viva Los Dodgers this morning. All Dodger Cubans and
Cuban-Americans will participate in the celebration. From
11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the historic 76 station, fans can
take pictures with All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal.
Outfielder Alex Guerrero will take photos with fans from
11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and outfielder Yasiel Puig will
greet fans on stage from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and take
part in a Q&A session alongside reliever Paco Rodriguez.
HOWIE DO: The Dodgers would like to wish a very happy birthday
to second baseman Howie Kendrick, who turns 32 today. In his first
year with Los Angeles, the Florida native is hitting .293 with seven
homers, 36 RBI and a .344 on-base percentage. Kendrick has appeared
in 84 of the team’s 89 games and has a .991 fielding percentage at
second base, making just three errors.
Kendrick leads the Dodgers and ranks 12th in the National
League with a .377 average (26-for-69) with runners in
scoring position. The next-best qualifying Dodger is Justin
Turner, who is hitting .296 in those situations.
ON THE MOUND: Dodger left-hander Brett Anderson has been
stellar in his last five starts, going 3-1 with a 2.18 ERA (8 ER/33.0 IP)
since June 16. Anderson leads the Majors with a 68.2 groundball
percentage and has allowed only 18 extra-base hits, tied for the third
fewest among MLB starters (min. 75.0 IP). Anderson has registered a
quality start in eight of his last 10 outings.
Anderson’s 17 starts and 101.0 innings pitched are already
career highs at the All-Star break, besting his previous marks
of 16 starts and 87.1 innings during his rookie campaign in
2009 with the Oakland A’s. Anderson has never faced the
Milwaukee Brewers.
PINCH PRODUCTION: The Dodgers are hitting just .191 (22-for-
115) off the bench, but their five homers and 21 RBI are tied with
Philadelphia for the most in the Major Leagues.
HE WORKS FOR YOU: Friday, the Dodgers announced a limited
ticket promotion to commemorate rookie and first-time All-Star Joc
Pederson’s participation in MLB’s Home Run Derby. The Dodgers’
ticket promotion will launch following the derby competition on
Monday, July 13 at 8:00 p.m. PST and it will be valid through
Wednesday, July 15 at 5:00 p.m. PST, while supplies last. The ticket
offer will be valid for the Sunday, Aug. 2 game against the Angels
when the first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive a cap presented
by Security Benefit. This ticket special is a tiered promotion: Fans will
be offered a $5 discount toward ticket purchases for the Aug. 2 game
and an additional $5 off for every round Pederson advances in the
derby, for a maximum $20 discount. The ticket special is valid for
purchases of tickets in the right-field pavilion, infield reserve, reserve
MVP and executive club level. The Dodgers’ Joc Pederson Home Run
Derby ticket offer can be accessed starting on Monday, July 13 at 8:00
p.m. through Wednesday, July 15 at 5:00 p.m., while supplies last,
online by visiting www.dodgers.com/HRJoc.
ALL-STAR GAME WEEK: On Tuesday, Adrian Gonzalez (fifth
career All-Star selection), Zack Greinke (third selection), Yasmani
Grandal (first selection), Joc Pederson (first selection) and Don
Mattingly (coach on NL staff) will represent the Dodgers in the
Midsummer Classic, marking the second consecutive season that the
Dodgers have had four All-Stars (2014: Dee Gordon, Greinke,
Kershaw, Puig). If anyone gets added this weekend, the club’s five
All-Stars would be its most since 1995 (Raul Mondesi, Hideo Nomo,
Jose Offerman, Mike Piazza, Todd Worrell). Major League Baseball’s
86th All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 14 at Great
American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
Today, the Dodgers will have two participants in the
SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game: catcher Kyle Farmer (US
Team) and pitcher Juan Gonzalez (World Team).
Pederson’s 20 home runs rank as the second most ever for an
NL rookie before the All-Star break, behind only the 21 hit
by Dave Kingman (1972, SF) and Albert Pujols (2001, STL),
and are tied for the fifth most in the NL this year. Pederson
will become the sixth player (eighth appearance) in Dodger
history to take part in the Derby, joining Mike Piazza (1993-
94), Raul Mondesi (1995), Hee-Seop Choi (2005), Matt
Kemp (2011-12) and Yasiel Puig (2014).
Prior to the game this afternoon, the four Dodger All-Stars
will receive their official Majestic All-Star jerseys in a
pregame ceremony on the field.
