During the process of learning

architecture, I find different

design methods that different

teachers brought from the

world could lead us to completely

varied unknown situation.

However, people insist some

kind of designing approach is as

strong as some people believe in

religion. I still search my

direction of design. Some things

that are not obviours, hidden

and too common to be remembered

are so interesting for me.

From the micro of the usual to

the macro of a building, there is

still some linkage not so obsolute

for me.

villa savoye concept model

The traditionnal temple in taiwan is characterized by its delicateddecoration. The colorful roof is like blossom in a city. Though thesereligious objects are fulled in our life space, we are still so easy toignore these crafts. From the origin of the tradition, there could be anothe representation of the crafts we have been used to.

c h a p t e r 1f r a g m e n t

2

From the very beginning, the decoration in the roof for me is

like a garden. The varied curved porcelains pasting in roof

seem to be a vividness of grey city. The linkage between the

oringinal model and corbusier ’s villa savoye is quite straight.

To open the lower floor as a public squae and to make the

building identified is the main concept.

is to design a 3C(computer, communication, andcomsumer

electronic) shopping mall. The main idea to construct whole

design is asked to start from our daily life’s missing curture.

THE PROJECT

Mozaic is a commoncrafts in the west. Itis basically placed ina flat way. Oppositeto that, traditionalTaiwan’s temples’s“mozaic” on the roofare made in a 3-D’sconsideration.

CONCEPT

The “trim & past” is a kind of traditional craftsthat mainly symbolize religious or culture value. And the art displays like a 3-D story board ontemples’ roof. This art consists of fragmentsof bowls. So, the 3-C shopping mall’s designconcept departs from “fragments of bowls”.

4

Using pepakula to flatten a bowl resultsin producting geometry. There are 4kinds of geometry composing of triangles. They are triangle, square, pentagon andhexagon.

f r a g m e n t

5

The character of “trim & paste” is the composition of fragments of bowls. To deal with transformation of skin set the first step to arrangethe fragments randomly around the3 towers.

The site is nearby the M.R.Tline of downtown, and peoplecrowd there. Besides putting 3towers for the identification of3-C shopping mall, to open thesite’s one corner near mainroad can absord more crowdto stay or even go ininside.

SKIN 2

From the observation of “trim & paste”, the larger fragments will be pasted on the side of larger curvature. According to that, I used the soft ofgrasshopper to arrange fragments by 4 kinds of curvature.
