Design’s reach is global. Its influence is felt in every inhabited corner of the world. Marketing and mass media has flooded our visual lanscape with unintuitive apps, noisy ads, billboards, and commercials. However, the power of design is only fully realized when many elements come together as a mesh. It is this mesh, that allows designs to stand firmly on their own, yet connected to the audience.

It is my belief that this meshes teams of people from which we can project ideas clearly and cooperatively with. When in mesh, we are operating at a highly synchronized level.

The Timepiece is of the Essence.

The Emit:Time exhibit is as simple as reading a clock, but represents the core essence of time piece design and horology. The logo is an homage to digital timepieces, and the Atomic Age. The colors were chosen to be simple, complimentary, and representative. The Orange represents the sun, by which one of the earliest timepieces, the sundial, was designed. It also represents the sands of time. The indigo represents the evolution of timpiece technology and the backlight for modern digital timepieces that you can see in the dark.

Research for this project involved an in depth lesson on the study of horology, and the development of history itself. Choosing a timeframe to start with was the natural way for me to being planning and designing this exhibit. By focusing on the aesthetics and their mechanisms, I was able to develop a simple yet robust visual system that incorporates two color palette, which is symbolic of day and night, old and new, as well as creating a complementary balance. The time sphere charts are both functional and for design purposes, allowing both the reading and plotting of time, as well as a pleasant arangement of shapes.

Take Flight Across the Skies in Luxury.

The new look Airbus. Sharper & more precise in all regards, with unparalleled production, revered customer service & commitment to excellence. Higher grade materials for high-grade travellers. With focus and sheer precision.

Being tasked with the reworking of such a high profile aero manufacturer, with a pechant for perfection, was no small task. The first step was the research and development phase. Upon learning more about Airbus Industrie, I was able to get a clearer picture on what they stood for. They are innovators, and leaders in the jetliner and military aircraft manufacturing industry. Passionate employees which embodies their evolution through 40 years as a company.

In order to achieve a simple but compelling refresh is not as simple as the results might initially indicate. Through further research of the 50 year history of the company, I was able to determine their key values and began forumalting different visual directions through sketches and moodboards. This lead to the seletion of a customized logotype based off of Scene Std by Monotype. Through research I was also able to see the scope of their business, and decided to go with a color identity system that helped enable each of their four branches to stand out. This system was then carried across multiple applications.

It’s Okay to Play with Your Food.

Traditional restaurants tend cater to one specific style. When that happens you get stale meals, and mundane service. Enter Gastronom. This is the place to eat for families big or small, or just stop in for a quick scientific smoothie or modular midday snack. Take yourself or the family for a restaurant experience that caters to the stomach and to the imagination. Have your nom, and eat it too. With adjectives like cheerful, friendly, inventive, and fun, the Gastronom brand was able to really carry itself as a unique restaurant to experiement with newly conjured meals and old favorite dishes. By creating an environment that is both clean and modern, with the energy and soul of cooking and eating infused helps Gastronom stand out in the dining market. Refreshing palette of bright mixes primary colors and accents relating to our main love, the food.

Typeface selection was critical to the success of the Gastronom brand. A sense of clean, controlled design with a playful energy showcases designer Ivan Filipov’s free typeface, Multicolore. With it, came the visual voice of Gastronom, a place that relishes the creative process of food. With endless choices for ingredients, Ordering at Gastronom is an interactive way for people taste and experience their own culrinary ideas.

As artists and designers, working with the ebb and flow of creativity can be a rather daunting, often times delfating task. Seeking to combine beauty with message and concept is the main objective for designers, and keeping that creative spark alive is the purpose of Happy Akzidenz. Inspired by the late Bob Ross, his outlook on art and the artist is one that has inspired millions. Creatype is a conference about this very idea of innocense and expressing the need for fostering our creativity. Through the type family of Akzidenz Grotesk, I was able to show type setting styles and functionality as well as flexibility to an older face Grotesk era face further drives the concept of sustained creativity, and working with the tools we were given, or have at the ready.

Eyes on the prize, weave through the pack, the biggest adrenaline rush is right here. High stakes went into this award winning pale ale, and Racer 5 is an homage to the winning golden tasty IPA. The project’s objective and overall goal was to give a new life to an existing beer brand bottle label and necker, opting to target a new segment within the California brewery market. My choice was Bear Republic’s award-winning India Pale Ale, Racer 5. A crispy yet full-bodied, hoppy taste fest with a springy kick. Its head tops off like a celebratory explosion of champagne at the winner’s circle.

The objective was to take an existing beer bottle brand and redesign it with the intent of a premium look and feel. In addition, a second type of brew under the same design was asked to be delivered as well. My selection of Bear Republic’s fantastic IPA Racer 5 proved to be a great excercise in visual hierarchy, foil rubdown application, and overall shift in brand identity in package design.

Sharp Reflexes and Precise Commands are Keys to Victory.

PC gamers are some of the highest caliber of video game players in existence. Their hardcore dedication, knowledge, relexes and drive pushes thtem to compete on a very high level. That’s why Logitech has taken strides to offer some of the best hardware and peripherals available to gamers with their G-Series. The only problem was their packaging and branding. This project encompasses the process + results of this gamercentric product.

Extensive market research, and surverys were conducted with game designers, game players, and hardcore gamers in order to find out what they were looking for in PC gaming peripherals, specifically Logitech’s G-Series. We focused our research on their desires and wants from a product’s packaging, and they wanted a cool aesthetic, with functional packaging that allowed them to see and feel what the product was like. They also cherished the opening experience and said that if it was unique enough, they would even keep the box it came in. Taking all of this feedback into account, we worked with their suggestions and developed the WYSIWYG concept tied in with the modern, sleek feel of high-end PC gaming.

Revive, Revisit, and Relive the Moment.

Recording our experiences is the most basic way of collectively sharing our own history as it unfolds. As technology and ideas of presenting these experiences has evolved, we have reached epitome of capturing the world around us. Captura is a magical product, essentially a camera capable of gathering data experienced from the five senses and stores them for later recollection. By freeing us from the constraints of the real world, I was able to focus on a concept for a great product.

Given the Importance of the camera’s invention, I found it interesting to start there. We see the camera’s reach everywhere we look, and upon asking the question, “What if we could capture it all?” I found my device. Captura is a wearable camera that records the familiar sights and sounds just like a still or video camera, but takes into account other inputs as well. Not only can you rewatch and listen to everything youve experienced, but Captura allows you to immerse yourself and grant a sense of presence within the present time.

Embracing the Paradigm Shift.

Create a 56-page book, 24” x 36” poster, and swatch cards that promotes a paper line from a company in the industry, and connect that specific stock with a chosen and developed concept.

My paper was the double sided, Polar Matte from Red River. The idea of collective conscious shiting is presented in this book, with the pupose of the specific Red River paper line with which it was printed upon. The Polar Matte 2-sided paper was a fitting choice due to it’s printed funtional polarity. Achieving this solution was don by examining this presented shift in ideas using experimental type juxtaposed with provacotive imagery. The result is a complete 180º and back again through the ever present yet invisible shift in polarity. My finding a balance between boldness, minimalism and absurdity, Polar Shift asks us what the true meaning is behind what we say and do, while consistently flipping the orientation, typefaces, layouts, and paper.

California’s Oldest Family Created Organic Cheese.

Select a cheese company brand and re design their packaging for cheese wheels, wedges, and single serving cheeses.

Founded in 1921, brothers Brothers Richard, Fred and John Rumiano emigrated to the United States from Italy at the turn of the century. After years of working in the Amador County mines, the brothers pooled their resources and in 1919 purchased a small dairy in Willows, CA. Within a few years, the dairy had grown enough so that the Rumiano brothers could experiment with butter and cheese production. By the mid-1930s, the enterprise had developed into the largest cheese company in California with eight factories. With the advent of major national and state highway systems, and mechanized cheese making, large commondity processing facilities supplanted local cheese factories. Eventually the Rumiano family sold all but two of its facilities.

Rumiano Cheese is known for their cheese harvesting and storage techniques. The oldest family owned dairy in the golden state, Rumiano prides itself on quality, taste, and selection, all with a rich history of founding and producing. With this idea in mind, the project to rebrand this company’s cheeses and look was inspired by happy cows, core family values, sustainable and responsible business operation and California tradition.
