Mercy College MBA Turbo Program Revised - Background

On Thursday, May 23rd, 2019, NYSED approved major changes to the Mercy College MBA Turbo Program. These include:

Ø Registration of our program on the Manhattan, Bronx, Dobbs Ferry, and Online Campuses

Ø Approval for a 36-credit MBA

Ø Approval of the addition of a concentration in Healthcare Management

Mercy College MBA Program

Ø Consists of a total of 36 credits plus Turbo if required

Ø Consists of three 500-level classes for a total of 9 credits

Ø Consists of three 600-level classes for a total of 9 credits

Ø Consists of four 700-level courses - for a total of 12

credits

Ø Consists of Capstone I or II – MBAA 810/811 or MBAA

815/816 for a total of 6 credits

MBA Admissions Requirements

Ø Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College

Ø Minimum 3.0 GPA*

Ø * If GPA is below 3.0, an interview with a

member of the Graduate Leadership

Committee is required. Work experience will

be taken into consideration for admission.

Ø If student has an undergraduate degree in

Business Administration with a minimum 3.0

GPA from an accredited institution within the

past 5 years, Turbo is not required.

Turbo Program

Turbo Program

Ø The Mercy College Turbo Program prepares students who

did not have an undergraduate business degree with a

minimum 3.0 GPA within the last five years to take on

the upper-level MBA courses.

Ø The Turbo Program is an intensive program running for 3

½ weeks.

Ø Consists of in-class hours Monday – Friday from 6pm –

10pm and Saturdays 9am-5pm.

Ø Subject matter covered includes Basic Accounting,

Marketing, Economics, International Business,

Communications, Business Ethics, and Management.

Ø “Waivers” no longer apply in the Turbo Program – it is a

preparation program only.

After Completing the Turbo:

Required Core Courses: NOTE: All core courses must be

completed before concentration courses.

Core Courses:

MBAA 501 – Financial Accounting

MBAA 502 – Corporate Finance

MBAA 507 – Quantitative Methods in Business Research

Required Core Courses Continued: NOTE: All core courses must be completed

before concentration courses. MBAA 601 – Quantitative Methods in Business Research MBAA 602 – Managerial Economics Plus - Either:

MBAA 604 – Operations Management Or: ACCT 742 – Financial Statement Analysis Or: HCLR 720 – Financial Management of Healthcare Institutions

Students concentrating in Accounting or Finance must takeboth MBAA 604 and ACCT 742.

After Completing the Turbo (Continued)

Required Courses continued: 12 credits in Concentration Capstone Choices: Capstone 1 – 810*/811 Thesis or Business Plan or

Capstone 2 – 815/816 Case Study Analysis Special permission is required to register for Capstoneclasses.

MBA Concentrations

Areas of Concentration

Ø Accounting (4 Courses needed for ACCT concentration)

Ø Finance (4 Courses needed for Finance concentration and must include ACCT742 which cannot be double-counted for the core requirement and FINC 703which is to be taken after ACCT 742)

Ø Healthcare Management (4 courses needed for Healthcare Services concentration)

Ø Human Resource Management (4 courses needed for HR concentration)

Ø International Business (4 courses needed for INBU concentration)

Ø Management (4 courses needed for MGMT concentration)

Ø Managerial Analytics (4 courses needed for ANLC concentration and ANLC751 must be taken first after MBAA 601)

Ø Marketing (4 courses needed for MKTG concentration)

Ø Organizational Leadership (4 courses needed for ORGL concentration)

NOTE: Students do not have to choose a concentration. If so, the degree granted is a general MBA. The number of credits needed does not change.

Students can also opt for a dual concentration. This requires four additional courses and two additional quarters allowing the student to graduate in a year and a half.

MBA Capstone Options

MBA Capstones – Two Options

Ø Capstone 1 – MBAA 810*/811 Thesis or Business Plan

Ø Capstone 2 – MBAA 815/816 Case Study Analysis

Special permission is required to register for Capstoneclasses.

MBA Capstones – Two Options

Ø Regardless of which option the student chooses, theCapstone classes are to be taken during the last twoquarters of the student’s MBA Program.

Ø The two Capstone courses cannot be taken concurrently.They must be taken consecutively.

Ø Students who want to graduate in one year MUST register for the first part of their Capstone during their THIRD quarter.

MBAA 810/811 Capstone Additional Requirements:

If a student would like to select Capstone 1 – MBAA 810/811Thesis or Business Plan option, there are special requirements.

Ø Students need a minimum 3.6 GPA. Ø Students need to submit an outline of the thesis or business

plan they wish to research.

Ø The outline is reviewed by two professors who will decide ifviable.

Ø If not, additional information will be requested. Ø If approved, authorizations will be entered.
