Case Study / Fifthplay
Nuvonet Portal
Fifthplay uses our offshore team to develop their Nuvonet
platform. Nuvonet is a website that makes local information,
services and shops accessible to everyone simply using a
PC, smartphone or tablet. It is a social networking website
connecting citizens, local authorities, traders, schools and
associations from the same town or region.
“It looks really great, thank you! I am very impressed from your team achievement during time we work together!” Mihail Mihaylov, Fifthplay, Project Manager
Client / Fifthplay
Technology / ASP.NET
Fifthplay develops and produces innovative technologies for energy management in
buildings and for health monitoring of patients. They are also actively working on the
further integration of technology into our buildings and cities.
Gateway is a key device for Fifthplay customers. It enables various devices to be
accessed from the Internet without a computer.
Nuvonet is one of the websites that Fifthplay provides to their customers. This system is
designed to make living in the city even more integrated and comfortable. It contains
information about stores and service providers, and allows ordering goods or services
directly from the website. Any merchant can buy Fifthplay Gateway with a printer, and
orders from the Nuvonet portal will be printed at his/her premises.
Case Study / Fifthplay
For service providers like dentists, or restaurants, Nuvonet users can reserve a time slot
when they would like to come. This information will be printed, sent by SMS and added
into the Nuvonet Calendar.
What the client required
The customer has a rapidly expanding system which requires considerable development
effort, so they have been seeking an experienced team able to look after the project. The
team had to work independently, following Fifthplay architecture standards, and report to
technical and business people.
What we offered to our client
Our team of four professionals performs development and QA tasks on the project. A user
experience designer, also provided by MEMOS, creates UI concepts for the Nuvonet
Portal and for other customers’ projects. The co-operation between MEMOS team and
Fifthplay is based on Kanban methodology as used, for example, in Toyota plants.
Application design principles
The application was designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of users with many
different types of devices. Our main task was to create the public version of the portal,
together with user experience design and usability optimization. We have developed the
portal for use across all browsers and tablets, including iPad and Android-based devices,
and we have also developed a mobile version.
The main technologies used are as follows:
ASP.NET
MVC 3
MS SQL
Case Study / Fifthplay
Entity Framework
JavaScript
CSS
The portal has several features, allowing the user to:
consult custom-tailored news reports and weather information
search for services of merchants, associations and service providers
order products and services directly from merchants (baker, supermarket,
etc.)
consult city information
subscribe to city events
monitor in-house energy consumption
Case Study / Fifthplay
carry out a GPS search for closest store, restaurant, or other points of
interest
Conclusion
We offered Fifthplay three developers and one QA engineer, who work remotely in our
development centre. There is also a user experience designer who creates all the portal
designs and improves application usability. The team have considerable experience of
work in user-oriented projects, paying close attention to device compatibility, performance
and comfortable usability.
