Mission:iMDAT- Response For Need (RFN) believes that humanitarian aid should empower local communities by using local resources with the ultimate goal of self sufficiency. RFN works to do this through building trust, collaboration, community, and accountability so that any humanitarian response is for the people, from the people.Background:iMDAT-RFN was founded by a group of Syrian youth who saw it as their responsibility to improve the quality of the humanitarian response in Syria. The Grassroots organization started as a community initiative, providing winter and hygiene supplies for the vulnerable in various regions of Syria. Since then,iMDAT-RFN has partnered with International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) to participate in the WASH program (an initiative of the World Health Organization), job training, sustainable food distribution, and sustainable housing.Through the various programs, iMDAT-RFN also enhanced the social cohesion. As an example, A Cash For Work program in Syria produced knitted clothes which in turn were distributed to local community children that were in need, irrespective of background, race, religion. This led to increased self esteem among the community and better relations among the different groups with in the neighborhood.
A future where humanitarian aid is led by anempowered local community.

Due to the diversity in Afrin, I disliked meeting new people, and used to limit my acquaintances to a certain social group, and talked to one or two neighbors, I was afraid of people. But after the training, I met nice and good people, this diversity made me happy, I had a negative idea about Arabs, but now it changed.
We learned how to work, and loved it, we were also capable of liberating ourselves from the familiar boundar-ies we set for ourselves, and became effective members in the society. Beneficiary, Daret Azza

iMDAT-RFN has implemented winterization intervention in NW Syria (at Afrin and Daret Azza sub districts) during period of Oct. 2018 till March 2019. This intervention targeted the most vulnerable families for winter kits distribution and the vulnerable female-headed household for the Cash For Work component. As indirect aim, iMDAT-RFN worked through this intervention to enhance the social cohesion among the beneficiaries where the knitted products from Cash For Work component distributed to the vulnerable children at the targeted communities. In line with humanitarian standards, iMDAT-RFN ensured that all population at the targeted areas were equally treated based on their needs regardless of their ethnicity, they also had the access to a safe and accessible feedback mechanism which enabled them to be engaged since the early phases of the project. This fact sheet illustrates the main achievement of this intervention.

As a continuation of the response to the human suffering that resulted from the war in North Syria, RFN/İMDAT has implemented humanitarian intervention in NWS (at Afrin and Azaz subdistricts). This intervention was designed to deliver two main outputs:First output comes under Shelter/NFI sector and in line with its strategic objective 1 (Provide life-saving and life-sustaining NFI support to the most vulnerable HHs) through providing winterization support to 6487 individuals to enhance their winter capacity. The second output comes under Early Recover Sector and in line with its strategic objective 1 (Strengthen access to livelihood by creating income generating opportunities and by improving access to production and market infrastructure to restore local economy recovery). Second output was achieved through supporting 34 HHs (212 individuals) in Afrin and enabling them to cover the critical gaps in attaining decent livelihood opportunities. This project took seven months to be implemented between September 2019 and March 2020.
