MCHD-MRC Mission

Macomb County Health Department

Medical Reserve Corps

Why Volunteer Now? Immediately following the attacks in New York City on September 11, 2001, thousands arrived at Ground Zero to

help. Because there was no system in place to coordinate these volunteers, response effectiveness was greatly

reduced.

Advance registration of medical and non-medical volunteers will provide Macomb County immediate access to volunteers who will be needed in the event of a disaster in Macomb County - increasing the effectiveness of

volunteers and overall emergency management efforts.

How Do I

Become a Volunteer?

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteers are needed from

medical and non-medical backgrounds.

Volunteers with certain skills and experiences are especially needed:

security, second language proficiency, data management, social media, teaching, reception or clerical,

radio operation, packaging and distribution, or any medical license.

In an emergency medication dispensing event, medication needs

to be given to 1,000 people per hour.

As an MCHD-MRC volunteer, you receive the training necessary to staff these locations and you get the

opportunity to practice your skills in full-scale exercises (drills).

Volunteers have filled roles as greeters, medical screeners,

dispensers, team leaders, and even as the site coordinator!

Our Youth Preparedness Program:

Teaches 5th-grade students about emergency preparedness,

including emergency kits and communication plans

Needs volunteers to present the hour-long, scripted presentation in

classrooms

Needs volunteers to help coordinate materials in classrooms
