• How are the principals of good governance reflected in the building of the Marina Bay Sands?

Anticipating Change, Stay Relevant

• The government anticipated in an increase in competency in tourism among neighboring countries, eg. Malaysia.

• Thus, the govt built the MBS to attract more tourist to Singapore.

• The MBS created more jobs for the people.

• It also attracted foreign investments and brought in revenue to the country.

• This helps to sustain Singapore’s economy.

• With better economy, people will be more financially stable and improve their standard of living.

Leadership Is Key

• The MBS is built on reclaimed land, which is due to the leadership of the government.

• If the govt do not decide to carry out land reclamation, there would not be enough land to built these attractions.

Reward for work, Work for Reward

• Employees are encouraged to work as hard as they can based on meritocracy.

• They will then be rewarded based on their hard work.

• This benefitted both Singapore’s economy and the employees.

A Stake For Everyone, Opportunities for all• The casino was built based on the

opinions of the people.• Many think that the casino would

bring in revenue for the country.• However, some think that the

casino would have a negative impact on the people.

• Although the casino attracted a lot of people and tourists, gamblers are on the rise. Some are addicted to gambling and this led to an increase in social problems, eg. Lending of money from loansharks.

• The Marina Bay Sands was built due to the anticipation of an increase in competency in tourism, based on wise leadership, by considering the people’s views.
