to 7,993 during 2001-11 and 10,000+ by 2021.Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of

India stated that a person who is a GOOD

ENGINEER, may not be a GOOD PLANNER;

similarly person who is a GOOD ARCHITECT,

may not be a GOOD PLANNER

As per Census 2001, India has 5,161 Towns and ONLY 3,000 QUALIFIED PLANNERS

As per Census 2011, India has 7,933 Towns and ONLY 4,500 QUALIFIED PLANNERS

By 2031, India needs 3,00,000 QUALIFIED PLANNERS

In 1960, T.J. Manickam, President, ITPI raised

issue of acute shortage of QUALIFIED PLANNES

due to which planning tasks were being given

to Architects and Engineers.
