• Your favourite standing committee would like to upload a video online to promote its latest project…

• To promote your Local Committee as a choice for the IFMSA Exchange student

Enthusiasm starts building you start collecting all kinds of videos

and photos….

WHERE TO START FROM

You just have no idea…..

Stepwise Approach

• Plan ahead

• Budget

• Getting what you need

• Learning how to use the equipment

• Capturing the footage

• Organizing footage

• Video Editing

Planning Ahead

• Define the aims and purpose of the

video

• Imagine

– Imagine what the video will look like in your

mind

– How do you want your audience to react to

the video?

– What feelings would you like to provoke with

the video?

Planning Ahead

• From your fertile imagination

– Write down a script

– Create a storyboard

• Series of pictures which depict how you would like your video to appear

– Make a checklist of things you need/to do:

• Footage that needs to be taken

• Photos that need to be taken/collected

• Equipment that you need

Getting what you need:

Equipment

• Ask friends and relatives to provide you

with the materials you need

• Improvise especially if you’re on a tight-

budget

• Ask your liaison to sponsors to consider

getting funds by including adverts in

your video

– Pre-roll

– Post-Roll

Learning

• Trial and Error – 2nd best

• Reading and checking out

documentation – 1st BEST

– Wastes much less time on the long-term

basis

– Helps you make better use of your software

and other equipment`

Capturing

• Capture the MOMENT

• Appoint someone who would be responsible for the capturing of the footage or do it yourself.

• Shaky movements look bad. Period.

• Use different angles and perspectives

• Take as many shots as possible and make sure you protect the footage with your life.

• Two types of shot– Roll A [ Static ]

– Roll B [ Moving Camera]

Organizing

• Footage Types– Tape [ Name each tape ]

– SD/SD HC Card

– Hard Disk on Camera

• Make sure you have two copies– Local computer

– External Hard Drive

• NAME. NAME. NAME– What would you prefer

• Time-consuming but with great

satisfaction of final results

• Organize your resources well

• Choice of music is critical
