FROM A PRINGLES’ FROM A PRINGLES’ TUBETUBE

First we had to cut the Pringles tube into two and use the bottom half.

Then we drew a circle on a black sugar paper that would fit inside the tube. We

fixed the circle inside using blue-tac.

Next we made a hole through the tube using a compass.

Then we covered the inside of the tube by placing black sugar paper all around inside.

After covering, we then closed the open end with tracing paper and secured it tightly with

an elastic band.

Finally, we wrapped the whole tube with foil, so it gives a decent look and covers all the masking tape and excess paper falling

out.

A real camera uses the same principle as your pinhole camera except that a real one does the job better. A real camera holds a piece of film instead of waxed paper. That film is coated with chemicals that are changed by light. They make the image into a lasting picture.

In a real camera, the lens does the same kind of job as the little hole—it forms a backward, upside-down image. But the lens lets in a lot more light so the film can do its work quickly.

How does a camera change a big scene into a small picture? To see for yourself, make a pinhole “camera.”
