Agenda
Welcome to “Make the Common Core Come Alive!” Here’s what we are covering in
our presentation:
Example lesson for Common Core standards
Great technology you can use to focus on Common Core standards in your classroom
Survey
Have you used any of these technologies before?
Technology does not have to be like this…
Compare and Contrast: Egyptian Cinderella vs. Walt Disney’s Cinderella
Common Core Standard: R.2.9Compare and contrast two or more
versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors
or from different cultures.
**This lesson could also easily be applied to CCSS R.K.1 (for kindergarten) and R.1.9 (for first
grade)
Compare and Contrast: Egyptian Cinderella vs. Walt Disney’s Cinderella
Materials Needed* “The Egyptian Cinderella” by Shirley Climo* A copy of the traditional “Cinderella” (Walt Disney’s version could be used)
Other Resources* Computer & Internet Access for students:* voki.com account for each student* storyjumper.com account for each student
Compare and Contrast: Egyptian Cinderella vs. Walt Disney’s Cinderella
Background Information:
*Students should already have a voki account. Please allow students time (5-10mins) to explore the activities on their accounts prior to the lesson.
*Students should already be familiar with both Cinderella stories prior to today’s lesson.
Compare and Contrast: Egyptian Cinderella vs. Walt Disney’s Cinderella
1. After discussing similarities and differences between versions of Cinderella, students will choose their favorite version.
2. Once they have chosen, they will create their favorite Cinderella, using voki.com. They will add a voice to describe the similarities and differences between their chosen Cinderella and the other version.
3. Students will then publish their voki for sharing.

Other Options for this Lesson
Have students continue to research different versions of Cinderella around the world (A great website to begin: http://www.pampetty.com/cinderellaunit.htm)
Using storyjumper.com, have students recount the events in their favorite Cinderella version(CCSS R.2.2 - Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their
central message, lesson, or moral.)
Other Technologies that could be used with this and other Common Core lessons
