AVIATIONa·vi·a·tion:

The flying or operating of aircraft.

Why did I choose this topic?•It all started when I was little.

•To be an astronaut , you have to be a pilot or engineer.

The Wright Brothers & a quick history of flight•Most people think that planes & “flying machines” were first thought of only about 100 years ago BUT Leonardo Da Vinci designed the 1st helicopter (but never built it) in 1485.

• The Wright Brothers made the very first airplane in 1903.

•The first planes were made out of fabric & wood.

•The first transatlantic was flown from New York to Paris by Charles Lindbergh on May 21,1921.

•The speed of sound was achieved in 1947.

•The first jet airliner was a Boeing 707 in 1957.

How do planes fly? And why don’t they fall?

Interviews

•Tracy Gonzalez, Pilot for United Airlines.

•Logan Gonzalez- training pilot (age 15).

•Tony Sleznick Fire-fighter pilot.

•Roger Brandt Private pilot for the Baney Corp.

My flight with Roger- the Baney Corporation pilot•I sat in the co-pilot seat.

•We went from Bend Airport to Portland Airport, and vice-versa.

•I listened to all the pilots talking to the control tower.

•English is the official language of pilots.

•The pilots say 9er instead of 9 because in German nine means no, so it can get confusing for Germans.

•He even let me fly the plane!!!

Evergreen Aviation Museum

•I saw the Spruce Goose.(The biggest plane in the world at one time.)

•I talked to the Evergreen RC (Remote Control) club, and saw then fly some planes and helicopters.

•I had lots of discussions with the volunteers about various planes.

PERSON!!!!!!!

Museum of Flight Seattle•It has the SR-71 Blackbird, which is the fastest, and highest flying plane in the world.

•It can go 2,193 MPH and 80,257 Feet up.

•Has the first Boeing 747(which is one of the most recognized planes ever) and has the first Boeing 737(which makes ¼ of the planes in the sky.)

•I got to step into the Concorde which is the fist, and only , commercial plane that goes faster than the speed of sound. It is no longer in service, but tickets would of cost $10,000 dollars!

•They also had the very first Air Force One. Air Force One is the private plane that the president owns. I got to go into the one that served President Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.

• I was going to show you a video of me, but the gave us the

wrong disk.

•Largest building in the world by volume.•1 KL by 1/2 KL.•Every second there is a Boeing airplane taking off or landing.•Second largest air craft manufacture.(under Airbus)

787 Dream Liner, Boeing’s new airplane.

•Cutting edge technology, such as automatically adjusting the plane to compensate for wind and weather. It also adjusts the lighting to help you get used to the time at your destination.•Extremely fuel efficient.•Made out of lighter carbon fiber materials, which makes for bigger windows.•Instead of blinds on the windows they dim by the push of a button.

Airbus A380•It is the largest airliner ever.•It entered service in October 2007.•It has 2 levels, and in some airliners you can rent a private room with showers and a bed.•One of the most luxurious planes ever.

Microsoft Flight Simulator•Controled by a joystick.•24 different aircraft, and 2,500 different airports around the world.•Realistic speed, graphics, and topography.•Helped me learn a lot about flight.

My favorite plane on the simulator is the………..

F-18 Hornet

•Can go can go 1,000+ MPH.(Faster than the speed of sound.)•Can take off from aircraft carriers.•It can go so high you see stars during the day, and you can see the curvature of the earth.
