Once therewas a boywho couldn't speak but owned amusic box that heldeverysonginalltheworld.Onedayhemetagirlwhohadneverheardasinglemelodyinherentire lifeandsoheplayedherhisfavoritesong.Hewatchedwhileherfacelitupwithwonderasthemusicfilledtheskyandthepoetryoflyricsmovedherinawayshehadneverfeltbefore.Hewouldplayhissongsforherdayafterdayandshewouldsitbyhimquietly—never seeming tomind thathe couldonly speak toher through song. Shelovedeverythingheplayedforher,butof themall—she lovedthesadsongsbest.Sohebegantoplaythemmoreandmoreuntileventually,sadsongswereallshewouldhear.Oneday,henoticedithadbeenaverylongtimesinceherlastsmile.Whenheaskedherwhy, she tookbothhishands inhers andkissed themwarmly.Shethankedhimforhisgiftofmusicandpoetrybutaboveallelse—forshowinghersadnessbecauseshehadknownneitherofthesethingsbeforehim.Butitwasnowtimeforhertogoaway—tofindsomeonewhocouldshowherwhathappinesswas.................................................Doyourememberthesongthatwasplayingthenightwemet?No,butIremembereverysongIhaveheardsinceyouleft.

Isometimesthinkaboutthefragilityofglass—ofbrokenshardstearingagainstsoftskin.Whenintruth,itisthetransparencythatkillsyou.Thepainofseeingthroughtosomethingyoucanneverquitetouch.ForyearsI'vekeptyouinsecret,behindaglassscreen.I'vewatchedhelplesslyas day after day, your newgirlfriend becomes yourwife and then later, themotherofyour children.Then realizing the irony in thinkingyouwere theone under glass when in fact it has been me—a pinned butterfly—static andunmoving,watchingwhileyourotherlifeunfolds.
