COLLECTION 2

This current collection is simply named ‘Collection 2’, to refer to the young age

of Winter in Holland. The knits of this collection are named for moments that

we experience every day, such as ‘Dawn’ and ‘Moonrise’. The range of products

includes scarves, cushions and throws and has been expanded to feature a room

divider, a tapestry and a collection of 6 tea towels.

The ‘Warm knits’ and the tea towels are fixed knits in the collection. The

tapestry and room divider are products only made once and therefore unique

pieces.

Taking what she learnt from the previous collection, Anouk developed her

ideas, and expanded the complexity of the process, while maintaining simplicity

in her designs. The most important addition is that she now also dyes her wool

in-house, resulting in even more unique products.

This dyed wool is used in the ‘Warm Knit’ section of Collection 2.

The idea ‘A GADIENT IS A SILENT CLASH BETWEEN COLORS’ has

inspired and defines this collection.

The use of a gradient in the Winter collection symbolizes a sense of serenity.

Anouk feels that the world around her is becoming more relaxed and that people

want to live at a slower pace. Regardless of whether this influence is because of

economic reasons, or merely out of general circumstance, Winter in Holland is

ready to respond to it.

The combination of bold colors and a white to black gradient radiate

calmness, while remaining fresh. The new yarns make the knits intensely soft

while maintaining its long lasting beauty.

Winter in Holland’s products are 100% wool or 100% cotton. The use of all

natural products is important for the longevity and beauty of the product. The

‘Warm Knits’ are a combination of virgin wool and Cashwool. The Cashwool gives

the product its luxurious softness and the virgin wool maintains the structure.

Quality and life span are key to Winter in Holland products. A product

should live with its wearer. It will change over time adapting to you; the knitwear

grows longer and shapes to your use, achieving more definition.

The product will live alongside you, while simultaneously maintaining its beauty.

KITCHEN TOWEL

Produced to be used

One of the new products of the Winter in Holland collection, are the

towels. These towels would be used as tea towels as well as towels to dry

your hands.

The towel is still, despite the ubiquity of the dishwasher, a regularly

used item in the kitchen. The increasingly common open plan kitchen

offers us the opportunity to incorporate products that are both beautiful

and useful. Most importantly a tea towel should dry well! Often this is not

the case. Winter in Holland has developed a towel that is both beautiful

and practical.

After much research into types of cotton and patterns, the result is

a collection of five hand-knitted tea towels. Winter in Holland uses pure

(untreated) cotton that enables the fiber to better absorb water, as that is

the fiber’s natural characteristic. This fiber is worked into a loose pattern,

unconstrained the cotton has the space it needs to, again: absorb water.

The collection of towels includes 5 different colors: Aubergine purple,

lime green, mandarin orange, lemon yellow and thymus grey.

Do not tumble dry

Dawn is a time of day just before the sun comes up. At

dawn, the weak light of the sun already gleams over the

horizon. There are 3 stages of dawn, which are defined

by the amount of sunlight, subsequently changing the

colors of the sky.

Knitted with a deep petrol blue yarn, combined with

a soft white woollen yarn dyed from white to grey, the

knit of Winter in Holland is named after this special

time of day.

SUNRISE

- The instant at which the upper edge of the Sun appears over the eastern horizon -

The knit ‘Sunrise’ is the second knit I present to

you. It is not clearly defined whether a sunrise is

the whole process of the sun coming up, or just

merely the appearance of the sun peeking over the

horizon.

The bright yellow yarn reminds us of the warm

light shining over the Earth, shedding light upon

a new day.

MOONRISE

- The appearance of the slightly elliptical object in the Earth’s horizon, which is not only and not always present at night times -

The knit ‘Moonrise’ features an aubergine-purple yarn

combined with a thick woollen white-to-grey yarn. The

name ‘Moonrise’ symbolizes the end of the day. In my

research, I found that the moon does not only appear

in nights and that it is perfectly normal when it does

not always appear in the night sky.

Back to the knit: all the products of ‘collection 2’

consist of a pattern that slightly shifts, which results

in a contrasting pattern right in the middle of the

product. This gives an extra exciting twist to the

product!

FOG

- The light grey floating drips of water will reduce sound and shapes the idea of an eternal emptiness -

Fog is a cloud which rests its mass of tiny ice crystals

close to the surface of the earth. This makes it easy for

us to be with our heads in the clouds. And if so, you

will be surrounded by serenity and peacefulness. You

will feel the fresh humidity of the cloud touching your

skin, making it feel like a ultra slow-motion shower.

We named one of our knits Fog, to celebrate the

beautiful feeling of standing in a fog. The yarns of the

knit knit are partly hand dyed and combined with a

beautiful soft grey melange yarn.

HAIL

- Thundersnow -

Hail is the appearance of hailstones in the form of

precipitation. This type of weather is not appreciated

by many; it consists of solid chunks of ice which are

formed by water vapor in the frosty atmosphere. These

hard chunks hurt on your skin when you’re situated

in the middle of a hailstone storm. The sky turns dark

grey. People in the streets make place for the bad

weather that easily soaks the landscape and that will fill

the fresh air with treacherous water stones.

The knit ‘Hail’ is named after the dark sky that appears

when a hailstorm approaches. The yarns used in this

knit is partly hand-dyed and has a beautiful dark grey

melange yarn.
